im getting realy fed up with this bike now. basicaly when i press the button for the electric start all i hear is what sounds like a very slow rotation of the crank. now the battery is only 2 days old and it worked fine yesterday todays a differant story. i checked the battery terminals there ok. the switch must be ok or there wouldnt be any noise when pressed and ive slipped the covers off the celenoid and bridged then together but still get the same thing. does anyone know whats wrong with it
the guy from the shop told me its charged. it worked all day yesterday and everything was okey dokey. i left the bike over night and this morning it just made that rotation noise. i whiped out the battery and charged it for 5 hours (the charger said fully charged after 5 hours) put it back on and still the same. this bikes been a pain since i bought it. i have a fishpond in my garden and if the c**t of a scoot carrys on its gunna make a nice pond feature realy rather soon
check the voltage in the battery via a multimeter. also see if the voltage goes down over an hour or so. if its bellow 12v and/or draining power , take it back to the shop and tell them the score, get a new battery and it should be ok, unless your bike drains it . could just be a faulty battery from new. have seen a fair few over the last few years
im not trying to make out youre wrong and im very grateful for youre advice  but surely the battery shouldnt just pack up like that after only a days use. i must have used it half a dozen times yesterday and it had no problem at all starting the bike. plus when i pull the break lever it comes on has bright has ever and indicators still work accordingly
Indicators and brake lights use hardly any power, your starter motor however uses A HUGE amount as it needs to turn and start the engine. In all honesty mate, try changing the battery, they can fuck up over night, just like anything. If i was you, I'd go to Halfords or w.e you bought it from, tell them the score, swap it over and see if it is still the same, if not, next job, try a new starter motor? Good luck :hello:
well you were right mate. i charged the battery fully lastnight then this morning i took it to my local car garage to get it tested has my meter got pinched along with most of my tools a few months ago. it turns out it was fully charged but after having the meter on it for all of 5-10 seconds it dropped considerabley (from 6 down to 3 aparentley) whats the chances of me getting a refund or a new battery do you think ? considering i dont have a receipt or the box
Next to none, most stores offer a receipt only refund policy...some do exchanges without the receipt though...just take it back and ask. Kick up a fuss, might work
update. ive just took the starter motor and battery off the bike and i have them here infront of me. now ive wired up the negative to the starter motor casing and the positive too were the red wire sits on the motor and now the motors spinning. should it be doing this if the batterys knackered ? i had the battery and starter motor on the bike yesterday and it just did that slow rotation. it did the same when i bridged the celenoid. any ideas folks has im now at the point where its gunna get smashed to shreds with a sledge hammer
yes it will still spin the starter motor(with low power) as there is no load on it(no crank to turn) Just take it back to the shop and ask for it to be tested by themselvs and when they see thaat its faulty , ask for a new replacement. i'v replaced a few myself, they just get sent back to the supplier as faulty. Make sure they give you a new battery and leave ity with them for an hour or so for them to charge it. Then make them test that one. if it comes to it, just buy another one , 40 odd quid isn't the end of the world, even at 16
Its actually quite common for a new battery to be faulty. Had many dodgy batterys before and they were brand new, couldnt hold their charge. Try charging the battery, or take it back... Could well be that something on your ped is draining the battery, bad earth maybe?
or someone could have charged the battery with too high an ampage...therefore wrecked the plates Optimates are supposed to be good and able to leave on infefinitely BUT.... i used to leave it on as a trickle charge over winter whilst the bike was laid up. I soon found that they boil off the electrolyte and destroy the battery Now, I just leave it to drain on its own and charge every month or so or as and when needed. Much more sucessful
