Hi, I've recently tried starting my Yamaha Jog RR but I flooded it so I started to loosen the spark plug while it blew a huge spark and lots of smoke started coming out of it, I had my battery connected and ignition was off. The battery went really hot and the wires that connect to the battery melted onto my frame and now it won't spark, any ideas what's gone wrong?

    Hi
Just so we know not to do whatever it was you did - how did you loosen the spark plug 'while it blew a huge spark' ?Was the thing running when you started to remove the plug ? How did you do that ?

It was completely turned off, I literally just out the socket over the spark plug and loosened it, as soon as it went loose it blew.

You've got a short somewhere - it's nothing to do with you taking the plug off. And It pains me to say it but you're probably ready to buy a new wiring loom and fit it. Which is a PIA.
See if you can get a wiring loom from a scrap yard, get a wiring diagram from the internet - and then start from scratch. And may god have mercy on you.

Get some advice first - how badly is the actual loom burnt out.
There is categorically nothing worse than a major electrical fault - on a scoot or any other machine. But fitting a new loom is in some ways the easiest thing you can do without prior knowledge - since everything is colour coded. But you'd need to strip the scoot of all body work - drop the engine and take photos/notes of everything before you touched the electrics - with the new / second hand loom on the floor. And lots of sticky tape & magic markers for labelling.
Otherwise - say nothing about you touching the spark plug (even though it has nothing to do with it) and try your insurance.

    Good luck -

Thanks for that, i'm trying a new ignition coil, wish me luck with that, otherwise I'm buying an old cheap Jog RR and changing over my engine and plastics.

i would definatly say youve got a short, sounds like the panels have rubbed the wires back and your live feed has shorted to your frame, follow the main positive lead from the battery to the relay and onto the starter motor, im betting its that one, your battery is no doubt fucked, you are lucky it didnt blow, batteries tend to do that when they short out.

I've found some live wires and I've isolated them away now, gotta try the coil now..let's hope its all that's gone!
