    Hi all

Basically I parked my bike up in the garage last Friday as normal. I went to it Tuesday morning turned the ignition but it was completely dead, nothing at all.
I am borrowing a 12v battery charger today to fully charge the battery, I have also ordered a 7.5 amp main fuse.
If neither of these solve the problem what else could it be

any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

cold weather kills batteries, and they are only small.
    Is the fuse blown?

    As steve says.
Or maybe someone has tried to steal it and cut your ignition wires?
Does it start on the kick?

Just an update, the garage is secure no one has tampered with it.
So far i have charged the battery, replaced the 7.5 amp main fuse and fitted a new brake light bulb.

When i turn the ignition i sometimes get the main dashboard to come on, if i pull the brake in to try the electric start i lose all power so the dash goes off.
In the same scenario but i try the kickstart works so i can start the engine and rev the bike.
When i attempt to put the front or back brake on or indicate i lose all electrical power and the bike stalls.

    any ideas ??

Brake light is shorting everything out.

Crossed wired behind the front panel?
Does the bike cut out when you pull the front brake on only, or back brake only, or does it do it with either brake regardless?

Cuts out when either brake is pulled, when you say cross wired behind the front panel what do you mean. Apologies if this is obvious but im really not mechanically minded

Hmmmm im wondering if the starter relay or switch is the problem. As that circuit only becomes "active" when the brakes are on.

Back in December i had a new automatic choke fitted which wasn't the stock Yamaha one as the garage couldn't get one, so they fitted one from a different make of bike. Bike worked fine tho after i got the bike back until this electrical issue.

Could this be something to do with it ?

    No. Not related at all.
I strongly suspect its the starter relay or starter switch

Wait. Just seen if you indicate it looses power too.
What about the horn? Is the battery the right way round?

I'm going back to the brake light bulb........
Reading back on your thread you say you replaced it, is it the right one? A twin pole not single pole.
I ask because I had a car customer some years ago that put the wrong brake light bulb in and every time he hit the brakes the dash would light up.
Did it have this problem before the battery went flat?

Thanks for all the replies but i think I have sorted it, I found one of the wires under the 7.5 amp fuse holder had a very small split in the red plastic covering which was exposing the wire.
This i think was shorting out all the electrics when i pulled the brake lever or used the indicator, i have wrapped some electrical tape around it re attached everything, put the fuse back in now everything is working as it should do.
Electric start works, bike doesn't stall when i put the indicators on or pull either brake lever.

I am going to keep checking the bike throughout the day but so far so good

Stevep, yes its the right bulb mate
