ive got no electric start, the battery turns the bike over but it just doesnt start but it starts on first kick . ive tried another battery but still with no luck any suggestions?
kl, check that the starter bendix is there underthe variator and battery has to be charged properly as it needs alot of power to get the bike started
is youre earth wire tightings? dont sound like its the earth but thats the only thing thats stopped mine starting. it sounds like its immobilised or summin
could be something to do with youre bike setup.. coz it sounds like its turning enough to start the bike... but you know how a kickstart always starts it better than leccy start.. hav a play with youre idle settings blo0d
i might do that homebody when i can be bothered...its prob cos the bikes toooooo powerful for leccy start
if a bike wont start off the electric start yet starts with a hard kick its ether a shnit battery (jump start from a car/booster pack) or your down on copmpresison..., thi si the first sighn that your piston rings are on there way out as theres not enough resistance in the engine to produce the pressure for the second cycle of the engine that starts the bike, where as a hard kick spins it just fine, but confusing.. but check wiht a booster pack or jump off another battery.. if its no good your ether down really bad on compression, have a lazy starter motor or your too high on compresison (doubtfull)
yer ive tried to battery both just dont have any luck. sometimes i notice that when the bike starts off the kick it wil cut out after a few seconds but when i rev it a little it stays on idle fine for as long as you want?
only the old old runner's have these installed.... bikes DONT start better off the kick, bikes wiht worn rings do (has anyone in this thread ever owned a new 172?)
i had a brand new kit on my old 172 lol...ive ordered new rings and got new bushes so ill do em all when the rings come. thanks minor il get back to ya see my results not doubt your right
I do not know what is causing the hard start, but I purchased a 180 dragster several months ago which had the same problem. I found that if I cracked the throttle open ever so slightly then the engine would fire on the starter. This did not cure whatever was causing the problem but it did start the engine on the starter motor (so maybe something wrong with the idle circuit in the carby).
Don't know if it counts but my old speedy was a reallll pain using the kick, but electric start was nearly instant.
rings rings rings... shit compression on low mix (idle) meaning the rpm of the starter just isnt enough to draw and compress an ignitable mixture.. opening the throttle gives it more mix of air and fuel=more compression=fires up.. kicking raises the rpm of the engine thus the same compression but more in the same time = fires up. worn rings mean poor compression, the first sighn of ring wear is an inability to start on the starter when its fine on the kick. every story in this thread is ring related
sorry to change the subject totally but minor i have been reading alot of your posts and i was just wondering how how you know all dis stuff bout bikes and porting and stuff. and how much you charge for porting if you do ?
i know what i know from making mistakes and doing it wrong for years.... aint long befor you make every mistake you can and know how to avoid them all. its the only real way anybody learns. pm for porting enquirey's
