had a test ride on a nexus 500 this morning , only did 400 before I had had enough handling was terrible, took it into the work shop and checked the tyre pressures they were ok it felt as if the front forks were twisted. any way we put the straight edge on the wheels ,
sure enough they were out 2 inches on the left 0 on the right. on a bike you can alter the rear wheel to straighten this out but on a scooter no way
I think the scooter has bent forks or yolk has any one else had this problem if so how did they solve it

look at the top clamps on forks , its possible either one or both fork legs have twisted in the clamp and thats giving you the throw out ?

Its either engine mounts, bent forks or bent frame...

as you can see from this photo the forks are the same design as a push bike, I think you are right scubabiker its the top stem or frame
as to the engine mounts they are ok well tight anyway, if the engine when put in had more spacers put on one side rather than equal amounts that may twist the wheel alignment
the owner don't seem to notice the scooter s handling but I wont ride it again, so down to what he says

I'm with scuba on this one, maybe the owner has used the wrong engine mount?
Unusual to be out that far on one side.

I'm betting the engines out of line.
Got me wondering if the engine mounts on upside down.
Did you notice if the shocks were cocked to one side or not?

no by the time I got back to the workshop I had had enough of it , only see the scooter when it comes in for a mot or in this
    case shredded belt
funny thing it only done 5000 miles since it shredded the last belt

Had that on a Puegeot V-clic, was eating belts in less than a week. Turned out to be the bearing in the clutch halves.
As soon as the belt forced the rear pulley to open, it was sending the whole clutch to one side, running cock-eyed, not by much, but enough for the belt to run out of true and shred itself.

5000 miles is a bit longer than a week, but as you point out there's something not quite right i have a 250 nexus and ive had no problems with handling since its forks were sorted out one fork had a leak so no oil the other had a egg cup full, but even in that state it handled better than this 500 does just one more problem to over come next Monday mornings hang over 076.JPG
