hi all im Matt from Wolves i have recently acquired a Yamaha passola its a 50cc scooter with a vacuum fuel tap which is perished. i have replace the fuel stopcock with a diffrent one with 4 outlets but i cant seem to get the right vacuum source as when its all connected together the fuel will come out from the vent port on the fuel tap or it will keep flowing out of the carb were the air filter would be. attached is the new fuel tap and what pipes are from the old one
Sounds like you need to get the proper tap?, have 2 old school 50's myself (82-melody/86-vision), different make maybe, but both have 2 connections only vacumn/fuel pipe only., Welcome to the forum.mk. .
hard to come by original tap even the bike shop had to go back to a microfiche to try and find something that could do the job
Must a been in some way,was in a fairly isolated setting when younger an heard of it, looks like you've hit the fun bit of owning a 'retro' ped (countries, model designations, names, etc.) - the parametres are enough to put you on valium!, my advice like with how I worked with my own,is keep your eyes open and put y/self into sherlock holmes mode......, Or you could cheat?,go down a breakers an compare stacks/filters/threads,particulary 'long the lines of more modern negating any issues with repkacement future/long term. .
hi matt, welcome to forum, may be better to switch it all over to a honda melody/vision fuel system if i remember correctly it is doable (american forum may have done it) ill try find the link, did you happen to get this off usedwolverhampton? if so saw it quite a few times on there, needs alot more than just a fuel petcock, when i looked at that scoot it needed carb too. need any help give us a shout, me and hairyjim arent too far and usually around, (hes the carb/fuel god) always happy to help. if my petcock is a match from my honda vision (should be) your welcome to the one i have, only in walsall.
yes that the one, whats wrong with the carb? i put new floats in and it runs on tickover just wont go under throttle unless its warm. did you look at it in ashmore? or was it off deancourt road nr wednesfield? and how much was it going for?
deancourt rd in wednesfield fella, he wanted to swap for a Samsung galaxy mini, its gonna need a carb I think,if not I think itll be a case of adjusting the carb and if I remember right he said there was a cap missing on the carb? there was a few other things I spotted it needed too, engine bushes looked a bit dodgy and engine had play in it (could move it side to side a bit too much) I don't think the vin is stamped into the right place and youll wanna check the steering bearings, tbh mate as I walked away I kinda laughed, wasn't worth my time or money but may well be a good little scoot to you, im more into injection than I am carbs so im not too good with them, im sure someone on here who knows more will be along soon...
see i bought it from a lad in ashmore who told me he had put a carb on it. its my first ever scooter and i liked the retro look. i cant remeber what he said he payed for it but i only went to 50quid on it i have been looking at trying a different carb
You have'nt got a retro mate - You got yourself an original!, The rest are just copies, don't ya know!. .
highly doubt he did, thats a good price tbh, take a pic of the carb and ill tell ya if its been changed or not
here are the pic like i said this is my first scooter how would i check the engine bushes and were should the vin be? i have the red pipe going to the vacuum fuel tap when i suck the red pipe it allows fuel to flow when not connected to the inlet on the carb but when its connected it seems like the fuel doesnt want to flow and comes out of the vent
cant seem to edit my post the thin black pipe is going straight to the head as in the (c) pipe on the pvs picture above. its just the a and b ones as you can see there is two left on the cylinder head and also 1 left on the carb which i belive is oil feed? as the oil tank has been removed i have been premixing fuel and oil
Generally your vin no.is stamped or on a plate on your steering stem, With some older 'peds it can also be on the upper frame rails under your seat or on the footboard siderails., Note:- usually your engine no.is stamped on the rear of your engine case - but they don't always tell you which side.mk. .
also there wasnt a airbox or airfilter on it when i looked at it, if there still isnt, this explains most the issues.
after being away for a few weeks training i come back to my passola any ideas how to change it over to the honda fuel setup, ideally i want to do my cbt on this to make it cheaper
im no expert on it and never done it myself but sure ive seen it on one of the American forums im on, youll need to change the carb, fuel lines, intake etc but its gotta be doable, ill try find the link to the guy who did it for you when im not busy, get yourself over to shireoak motorcycles in Brownhills for ur cbt, £110 for the whole lot including use of there helmet etc and theyre a great laugh too, did my first cbt with some in Wolverhampton but going to shireoak next time
