Hello all, new to the forum but not new to bikes.

Im just rebuilding my sr 125 and a question about the engine mounts.

On the "silent block" it consists of two parts, the rubber piece and the plastic mushroom cup.

On my mounts and plastic cup is broken, ive ordered a new one but its on back order, more to the point i cant understand what purpose it serves, can someone explain please

its like a sort of bushing, stops its vibrating too much and keeps the motor central to the frame.

I know what your saying but the bolts go to the rubber block and theres a spacer between the rubber block and the outer cup

i know they serve a purpose, but cant think what they do exactly, i think shiny red makes some nice replacements if you are stuck with the whole back order thing.

A747 is a far better oil (but bloody pricey), or shell advance cart m is also a great option, but you must be sure to empty all the old oil out as you cannot mix synthetic blend castor oil and r40.

ive been using castrol racing something or other on my scoot, seems to be going well, no soot, but lots of smoke (i run rich mixture and lots of oil as im still running it in). theres a big difference between good and cheap oil on 2 strokes, i work for a main dealer and ive seen so many engine ruined by cheap own brand oil and other go thousands of KM on castrol.

When i put the barrel back on i smeared the r40 and you could see how it just glazed the barrel, cant run r40 through oil pump as its too thick, the r40 will gum up the rings but the smell is worth a base gasket every so often lol, i had a crm 250 that i ran on r40, i held the throttle wide open down motorway doing about 85mph for a good 3miles, the panel that covers exhaust tail pipe was melted to exhaust, it was stinking hot and it never even tried to seize so for that reason i know r40 is still one of the best out there

A747 is a castrol based synthetic blend, it offers higher milage before rebuilds and doesnt gum the rings like r40/r30, plus you can run it through an oil pump (although it is still a little thick) smells good too with it being synthetic based castor oil.

I had an sr125, couldnt ascertain a purpose for those outer cup things either. In fact the whole emgine mount looked like a parts bin special with lots of little bits and pieces on it that still managed to end up making a more complicated, less reliable, less effective mount than the piaggio/gilera solution. (much like everything else on aprilia scoots)
