    Hi all,

Sorry for asking such a massive newbie question but I don't have a full loom or any of the wiring to work from on my project engine.

Can someone tell me what is ment to be connected to what for the ignition/charging system for my zip engine.

I have the stator in place, but nothing is connect to it, whats ment to connect to the stator? Does it connect directly to a coil to the spark plug or does it connect to something else etc?

Please can someone let me know whats connected to what so that I know what I need to get in order to get the engine running.

    Thanks in advance :)

im not positive but i think the stator has a few wires, including one for the pickup sensor that touches your flywheel, these just connect to the loom. Sorry if this hasnt helped its all i know

The stator and the pickup are attached to a single plug which seems to attach to the loom, which I don't have lol I was hoping that it would connect onto an ignition coil so that I could try and start the engine!

IIRC its stator to cdi then cdi to plug/rec/loom could easily be wrong tho

I know that my Blata ignition system is pretty simple, its just a pickup/coil attached to the spark plug, I guess that due to the scooter having lights and an onboard battery etc its got a charging system as well.

if you get no satisfactory answer, as I can't remember, I will strip the side plastic off mine and have a look. Won't be til Monday morning though.

Thanks mate, would be rather useful as I can't seem to find any good photos of the OEM setup, I have a feeling it plugs into a loom and then splits off to the CDI and to a voltage regulator for the lights etc will keep searching. Looks like a used loom is about £20-£25 so no massive issue if I need to buy one and then shorten it etc

Im looking to run an electric water pump off the stator as im converting the air cooled engine to a water cooled engine but not using the mechanical pump, so no charging system but just a 12V source when the engine is running.

send me an e-mail addy, as I have a PDF file on the charging system showing the stator wiring out-put destinations, which is just as well as I am snowed under with work this morning.:)

if you building a drag bike in which you will have only a kill-switch why dont you wire your pump to battery and make a manual switch ?? as you are not going to ride it for all day its a race which is like max 1 min long battery should least for even longer ? :)

Guns, any chance you could email that too me too ? If i'm correct you can cut everything off the loom sept the ignition wire, and the cdi wires, use the ignition wire for a kill switch. I don't know about the water pump though. I'm converting to LC myself. I was told to wire it into the ignition so when you turn the bike on, It's automaticly on.

If I ran it off the battery I would need:

Wiring loom to connect to the ignition coil/CDI
    Water pump
    Battery

If I run it off the OEM loom I would need

Wiring loom to connect to the ignition coil/CDI + 12V pump feed
    Water pump

I would be saving weight to not have a battery on the bike as the engine needs the loom to run - my Blata B1 engine just has a CDI straight to the plug and a cut off switch to earth it so no loom, if it was the same on the zip engine I would fit a battery for the pump.

P.S. is this the info that I need:

I was just going to do that, I didn't have the link, just the PDF file. Yes that is the same set of diagrams, as I have.
