Newbie Honda NSC50R variator

I'm trying to replace the variator and can't remove the crank case.
I have removed all the bolts and just wondered why it hasn't come off. do I need to use force?
Sorry for the stupid question but I can't find a book / post with any details on this part.

If you look at the case at the back wheel end.. you’ll see a little tab if you put a long screw driver through the wheel and on to that tab and gently tap it! the case has dowels that can some times make it difficult to remove
