Hi guys, I was just looking at the specs on a brand new typhoon and zip (early hours of morning bordem). And I couldnt help noticing the Typhoon (88kg) is 7kg lighter than a zip (95kg)... Has it always been like this because I always thought Zips were the lightest bike in the piaggio range?? The reason why I brought a zip was because of the weight advantage over bigger scooters.. Might chop it in for a brand new Typhoon now lol..
wtf are you on? its 86kg running weight on the piaggio website...its not specificly there weight ether, its there size that also makes them quicker/feel quicker. but ye, deffo lighter than a new typh. theres not much in it tho tbh, just bigger yres, diff forks and a diff front wheel and they would weigh the same.
Ahh right I was obviously reading false info I wasent on the official piaggio website, said zips are 95kg lol so their actually a couple kg's lighter than typhoons then, thats good because im all for lightweight bikes and power to weight ratios Cheers minor, il probably keep my zip now knowing its still the lightest piggy! (the reason why I brought a zip)
yeah was just about to say the 50cc zips are 4t now from what ive seen in the shops so that would explain a bit of weight. probs just piaggio being stupid
They re-introduced the 2T zips a while ago, when the Zip RS 250 limited edition was released! Still making 4T's too but I belive with the better 50cc 4 valve engine thats ment to be as quick as a standard 50 2T.. Lmao! I've also heard rumors and been told by a piaggio dealer, that piaggio are going to release a brand new Zip SP! It better not be a watercooled 4 stroke!
it go's against everything ive ever siad, but the new 50 4t engines are good to tune. but yes, the 4t/2t zip is an option on the 50 i belive? as they still list the 2 stroke on there site and theres brand new 4t 50's in my local shop... ? unless its old stock wiht a new registration... but ye, 4t's are alot heavier (obviously twice the mass in the engine) but dont write off the 4t just yet, not saying get one over a 2t.. but there becomming faster/cheaper to build as the years tick on and there almost as economically viable to tune as a 2t.. imadgen 16bhp 70's that will do 4 hour trips
Well ive felt the weight of a 03 typh 125 (so 125 frame) compared to my zip sp front and wow. the typh is a good 5kg if not alot more heavier...
4 stroke is the way forward but 2T will remain the tuning favourite for old skool pedders! But yeh I like the sound of long distance rides on a tuned 4T its a shame our 2T counterparts cant do that unless its stock really I guess you could take a polini sport 70 kitted ped for a long ride but only if its running mint and you let it cool down every 30-40miles or so. Good news for you minor they are deffinatly still making 2T zips, theres 2 brand new ones in my local shops and still a brand new 4T. I wanna see what the new Sp will look like (obviously the same as before but different decals), and its ment to be cheap only £1300 new.
Yup i just BEG piaggio dont put a L/C 4T engine in it, although the local dealership says its gonna be 2T like the old ones.
