Ok, so i bought a new engine off ebay, exactly the same as the one out of my ap50 for 85 quid delivered. the guy on the phone said i need my carb and my starter motor. so i took the carb off, no problem because i know what im doing with carbs. and then i took the starter motor off and there was this plastic thing with some springs in it and some copper connections? is this normal or have i fucked it? another thing is getting the rear wheel off. how in hells name do i do it? ive locked the clutch by putting screwdrivers in it, and tried turning the bolt thats holding the wheel on and its just too stiff. am i doing something wrong? the man on the phone also said i need to bleed the oil pump? can someone explain, please help me. *If you cant be arsed to read all that, in other words* I cant get the wheel off. the starter motor has connections on a plastic plate which are looking dodgy, but it worked fine before. and how do i bleed an oil pump? Thanks
if you cant budge the nut on the wheel, you may need a breaker bar for extra leverage, but be careful you dont start bending things in your clutch etc....a safer way would be an electrical impact gun There is usually a bleed screw on the oil pump, you take the screw out and replace it once oil trickles out without air bubbles, if the engines been apart i usually stick a bit of oil in the fuel for the 1st tankfull, that way if an air lock does happen your not running with no oil....of course it may run a little smoky for the starter motor it may be best to stick a photo up of the problem, as im not sure what you mean :glare:
Ok thanks alot dave all this made sense to me but, i think you misread a little bit (no offence) because i ordered a pre owned engine off ebay. and it doesnt come with a carb, or starter motor. so i took my starter motor off. and the carb. so thats all cool, and do you think a car garage would have a 23mm impact wrench? or impact gun? and would this work because the clutch also turns when you turn the wheel. p.s i dont need any of the old engine parts so if there is a way i can lock the clutch easily then i can get the wheel off no problem. thanks dave, please check back to this thread =)
impact wrenches don't spin a nut off, they punch it off in fast sequence, so quick the torque doesn't transfer outside of the work,( usually,) once the nut is loose then it spins it undone.
So guns, your sayin an impact wrench would work then? and if not, how do i hold the clutch still to take the wheel off. by the way, it doesnt matter how i hold it still because im throwing this engine away.
i have suggested an impact wrench, guns has suggested an impact wrench...but still your asking the same question over again :banghead:
Lol, sorry, just wanna double check before i go out and rent one, or borrow someones. thanks, ill get back to you soon
I use impact sockets with mine, as if the going gets tough normal sockets open up, the walls of the socket are just not strong enough. although mine is cordless it creates 320Nm of torque, be warned that some cordless are " toys." Ones that run off car batteries are normally up to the job, very cheap to buy as well. Obviously the daddy is air, have seen 1000Nm running off air. Many DIYs who haven't got the kit get a garage to rattle/crack it loose, then get home and finish the job with a normal socket set/breaker bar. sockets, deep sockets, extension bars, all impact rated and the wrench itself set me back best part of £300, so it's understandable that most people won't have the kit, but it's got me out of trouble so many times, although there is normally an alternative with locking plates and a scaffold tube on a breaker bar.
