Any help with this, just put the new Xenon Bulbs into the Bike... took the front plastic off, removed the rubber guard, took the rubbery guard off the lamp plastic, turned the bulb mount anticlockwise, took the bulb out, put the new one in, put everything back, turned the Bike on to check, and constant ticking by the battery..... I've never had to mess with the bulbs before on any of my Bikes so not sure why this is caused and how to sort it? the Bulbs bought are 12v etc, perfect fit and so on, didnt do anything else diff... any suggestions?
This is the back, obv pretty simple, cant really do anything wrong... and a pic of the Bulb actually working... I checked the 2 Bulbs (old and new) and both are the same, H7 12V 55W, so why the clicking/ticking noise all of a sudden from the Battery?
the 55w HID might be sucking to much juice from your battery,,,,you might need to fit ballasts, relays etc to make it work properly
How come its only now though if both old and new are the same type? I turned the ignition on and off a few times to show my Step Dad (he's an electrician) and its seemed to of stopped now, going to try it again tomorrow as the weathers just got bad again!
The new ones are Xenon, brighter.. white, as I have a white LED strip going in so needed the Bulbs on the Bike to be the same and not the yellowy colour... but both H7 12V 55W
xenon bulbs are a type of HID lamp,,,,,,they need a high voltage to get started which might be causing this ticking sound fitting HID lamps may involve fitting a kit to solve this problem can you tell i just googled that,,,hahaha
lol thanks, well the tickings seemed to of stopped, but i'll try again tomorrow and go from there, are there any other bulbs you can suggest that are white but dont need this 'high voltage to get started'...?
My stepdads an electrician and even he was stumped on why both bulbs are 55watt and 12volt yet the xenon one is making the battery tick... again it seems to be ok at the moment, havent strated the Bike for a week due to weather so havent been able to check again yet, hate this weather :-(
So what about these... 'xenon look'.... you think these would work better? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OSRAM-H7-...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item25858f07d6
If HID bulbs weren't fitted as standard on your bike (or car, for that matter), then retrofitting them may result in an MOT failure in 2014. This has been recently introduced as part of the revised MOT tests for 2014. "High brightness halogen bulbs" will be OK as they aren't HIDs, but HID kits on older cars and bikes will definitely be a fail in 2014.
I just checked and these so called Xenon ones are actually Halogen, same 12v 55w as my original, so why are they making my Battery tick/click? also I just got back from a ride and they dont seem to light up the road that good even though they're supposed to be brighter, weird.
They are probably drawing too much current from the battery so the charging circuit is always playing 'catch up'. It could also be the starter motor relay clicking as that is located near the battery. You may need a new or a higher capacity battery to run two Xenons together. Xenons need a lot more current to 'ignite' them compared to standard bulbs and it may be overloading the regulator. Two bulbs would draw the best part of 10 amps, so check what your battery's capacity is in amp hours and what your charging circuit can put out in amps - if you have a workshop manual this information will be in there.
Case closed then, as they are tripping the regulator and the starter relay, as the battery can't keep up with the current draw. The battery voltage must be collapsing and he is risking buckling the battery plates and sh*gging up the battery.
I just got a new Battery for it anyway for that specific Bike, it states in my manual for the Bike that I need H7 12v 55W Bulbs, which were the ones currently in there but the normal yellowy colour (Halogen), the ones i've put in now are white Halogen, H7 12v 55w.... (Halogen, not Xenon) so they're the same 12v 55w Halogen Bulbs but just white instead of yellowy, the ticking isnt there anymore so im not sure why it was doing it in the first place, I do have another Bulb, same H7 12V 55W (White Xenon Look) which i'll try and see if it ticks again.
Put the new Battery in, straight away there was a ticking... I got a new Bulb which came yesterday so i'll put that in on the 1 side which I use mostly and put the original yellowy one back in on the other side which I dont use... just need the centre bulb but not 100% sure what it looks like, just changed the Battery and it started raining so the covers back over the Bike until I get change the Bulbs tomorrow :-(
Confused and p'd off... its clicking with all of them, I even put the originals back in, both, and still clicking, so thats the originals clicking, the FOUR H7 Halogen (coloured) ones, and the 1 Halogen (white Xenon look which is actually yellow not white) I put the 2 coloured ones in which I hadn't used previously, but for some reason the base was yellow and the end was white, where as on the first 2 I used they were all white.... think the 2nd lot were getting more yellowly the longer I kept them on though :-/ the Xenon Look one which is supposed to me white.. I put that 1 in with 1 of the yellow originals, yet that white one is yellow!! so yeah, got the 2 originals back in now, yellowy, so basically been a big waste of time trying 5 Bulbs lol but I dont understand why its still clicking with the originals ones in?
This was a weird one, yellowy at the base but white at the end :-/ sending these back anyway, bought 4 of them, going to go with a good brand, is anyone can suggest one.... need it bright white! H7 12V 55W regarding the relay clicking, im going to find it and check theres no loose connections, and buy a new one as they're only £12.50...
I'll go with the Osram Halogen ones... just seen these on eBay but whats the difference between the 2? (normal ones £3.95 and 'night breakers' £8.99) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-OSRAM-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20ddba1492 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-OSRAM-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item48547eb84b
