Hello all I'm new to this forum, I have a runner 125 4t that im going to hopefully fix up properly and eventually sell. I need ideas on a new bike tho, haven't rode in just over a year. I'm 20 and doing my cbt again seeing as cars cost to much to insure. Just wondering what 125 I should be looking out for I have about 600quid an I know its not alot. Cheers Lee
Because I need a way to get around at the moment to get to work, the runner is not in a fit state, It has a malossi 210 kit and just had a new bottom end but I do not know if this was put on right. Going to take me quite a wile to get it fixed.
if you get another vx runner it would be much easier to fix the other one as you could swap over parts that you think needs changing and then just order the new ones
I have been thinking about that it's a really good idea but I have allways worried about bore kits as people say they ain't reliable?
A 4 stroke bore kit is perfectly reliable if it's setup right. So is any 2 ring 2 stroke kit. The only thing is the generally need servicing more regularly than stock and other items will wear out quicker. Fuel economy will be worse too. You will struggle to find anything for £600.
Thanks terro. I keep looking around lucky I have a old man who likes bikes too and I'm finding a few bikes turn up in my price range sometimes just gotta be fast. If possible could you give me an exact checklist of things to go over. My engine wont turn over on the starter motor. Could this be weak starter I have a new battery.
Could anyone let me know what they thinks up with it? The bike just can't turn over on the starter motor and It is getting a spark. The fuel is getting through. Is it worth taking it apart and checking the barrel? I'm going to fix this and sell it. Got a nice white and blue paint job. What exhaust shall I put on as well. I have standered and pm tuning but it's a pain to get on and off.
what area are you and how much do you want for it, my nephew looking for a vx so he might snap it up off you and you buy a working one??? think you may need to get someone to look at it or get your hands dirty have a look at the starter solenoid, it might not have one?
Cambridge and I don't know how much it's worth. I dont mind getting my hands dirty. It has everything as far as I can see. Just seems to be really weak. Could this be because of the bore kit or could this be because a weak starter?
sorry i miss understood i thought it didnt turm over at all maybe something to do with the new bottom end then
Just got a few quid more together now have about 1000 was wondering what people recomend. Hopefully someone who has worked on and ridden various 125 bikes. I have found a couple of rs125s but know about reliability issues and not cheap to fix. I want a bike that's reliable, cheap to run, easy and cheap to find parts and also has to have some tuning possability. The bike will be used quite alot so don't want to tune it so it goes pop every 1k miles.
you cant have it all bud, reliability, cheap etc go 4 stroke power and tuning ability go 2 stroke The rs125 relaibilty is a myth, its as strong as any 2 stroke motor, thrash it cold and treat it badly with cheap 2 stroke and expect lots of time and headaches fixing it. warm it up, treat it well and use good oil and expect a pretty reliable ride. my rs gets used all the time, i treat it right and its relaible and bloody quick,
Thanks mate. I know the rs is a handful as I have had 2 mates with them(old shape and new) the thing I like is parts for them ain't overly expencive. I want something I can overtake tractors with ease(problem with living around farmers) the rs really fits what I want as I love the shape(had a rs50) the handling is perfect an they are bloody quick. The only thing that's putting me off is buying one is I don't know how well it's been treated, warmed up, what oil. Is there anything I should look at when buying that could give me hints? Also I would rather an older shape with the vents in side pans and 2 intakes on the front. I think these use diffrent engines and carbs tho.
You could try looking at less desirable scoots. I am on the lookout at the moment myself for something cheap, fun and reliable and on my short list right now are: Vespa ET4 (125) Piaggio X9 Piaggio Hexagon Piaggio Skipper Each of the above can be found for your budget in a running but tatty state.
on the rs the engines did change at some point from a rotax 133 to a 123, however theirs no diffrence in power. The carbs changed from 34mm to 28mm back in 94 i think but you can buy and fit a 34 very easily as i have done. The only difference with the new shapes are the electrics, euro 2 models use the older style rave unit for the power valve and a separate cdi, the euro 3 model has the rave unit built in to the cdi. The euro 3 also has tps (throttle position sensor) and a carb heater, all of which can be left off the new 34mm carb
