Hello all I am iain 34 from Scotland I only passed my cbt last Thursday, never been a car driver so have alot to learn, my first scooter is going to be a honda pcx 125 in white, I will ask alot of daft questions but learn alot at the same time.
No question is daft - been where you are and I'm an old git And yes just recently picked up a new PCX 125 (in red) and loving it (except finding places to ride to) Did you take the PCX for test ride?
Not before I bought it no, I got it in white and absolutely love it, just riding it is nice not to mention all its little security features
Never been into cars/self,went straight onto bikes proper in the 90's after 4 years provisional - never looked back or regretted it,best of luck on your journey & Welcome to the Forum..
Thankyou mark I am slowly getting the hang of it, the biggest thing I'm trying to get my head around is throttle con tell keeping it at say 30
ive always been riding bikes, even with bad health, only just passed my car test after 10+ years of riding all year round... "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" welcome to the forum
try this method for throttle control. get the scooter upto the 30mph , then just tickle the throttle on and off a little bit. what you wanting to do is listen to the engines exhaust note . on my little two stroker its a pain the the rear to hold it at 30mph as thats where my power slips in and the bike is very perky, i have to feather the throttle lots and take my eyes from the road to the speedo ( not a great thing to do ) so i have learnt to listen for a certain exhaust note that tells me roughly the bikes speed. a lowish burble is 20mph ( sounds like the bike is stuggling to idle ) a struggling burble is 30mph ( it sounds like a strangled cat, me...owowowowow me.owowow) only place this does not work is downhill or uphill but else where i can near on pin the throttle and hold it via its exhaust note. it takes a little time at first to learn throttle control so keep at it , when your poodling along at 30mph listen to that exhaust and remember its tone. then later on wind the thottle on and try to match that tone you heard early on, 9-10 times its bang on 30mph or just a fraction over.
Thank you Tamiyacowboy i am slowly learning but the listening part i didn't think about, daft i know but i certainly will from now on. i've only' been riding a couple of weeks.
you will pick it up quick, about a month and your confidence soon starts to perk up and riding starts to become a natural thing.
