I have a speedfight 100cc, its good for 57mph on a flat, drops to 50 up hill and will touch 63 going down hill... I`m not a speed daemon so that cruising speed is fine for me but Ive been running back and forth from Coventry to Norwich on it (lots of fun ) and I really would like to be able to overtake a lorry without it taking a year... Looking for suggestions, i.e. polini 120cc ? or get piaggio brackets for my bike and mount a 125 engine? (been googling but don't know much about either) ideally Id like the easiest option possible. Basically I am after another 5 to 10mph out of it, Currently: 100CC 2T standard peugeot engine with stock parts apart from technigas exhaust. Thankoo
Buy a 500cc or more motorbike, as it sounds as if your riding it flat out every where, 57mph is not a cruising speed, for such a small cc scooter.
get a geared bike for journeys that long. your crank must be buzzed to fuck going flatout for 100+ miles, toughest speedfight ive heard of
don't want gears, like to keep it simple. She happily pootles at 55mph without issue, the day before I set off on a long journey i give the bike a good going over. Crank and piston are in good condition.
Sports exhaust, Lighter rollers, Carb upjet - Should give you that extra boost, If you have the funds, go for a 120cc kit too. But as the others say, thats a lot of stress on your engine, Peds are mainly made for zipping around towns and stuff, Not for long distances like you're doing. you would be more suited for a geared 125 (or bigger) You could spend countless amounts of money maintaining your bike / repairing it, But in the long run it would work out cheaper to just get a geared bike......... Or move closer to Norwich!
a small part of why im doing this is to prove to people that speedfights are not speedshites, the 100cc`s are decent bikes, comfortable, reliable, cheap to maintain and suprisingly robust. My 300 mile round trip cost me £18 in fuel. took 5 hours there, 5 hours back and that includes 40 mins of breaks. The train takes 6 hours £91. Coach 7 hours £38, and this is much more fun
Speedfights rock ! I had one at 16 and it was my baby, If you have the money to maintain it to a high standard then go for it mate! dont let anyone get in your way, Im just saying that with the amount of miles your racking up, a proper road bike may be better. however, if you decide to slowly do your speedfight up with decent makes like malossi and polini, then them parts will last much longer than stock, so you should be okay. life's full of people making you live and behave a certain way F*CK 'EM! and do what YOU want mate !
