Hi Guys, got an Sr50 with race pipe and de restricted.

On a flat this thing tops out at 45mph! which is slow for an aprilia with a pipe. The acceleration however is amazing it beats any ped put it that way. Now I think the reason for the slow top end is the rollers. I dont know what weight are in there cos its as I bought it. I think the rollers in it are too light and are causing it to move up the gears alot quicker also causing it to get into the power band very quickly but also causing it to drop out the power band too early. Leaving me with the bike screaming for its life at 45mph...

Does anybody else agree with my theory and think that the problem is the rollers?

have you checked your tyre pressure?,,,,not sure if you use one but in my home town we have a new tyre machine that inflates your tyres on its own,you just park your scoot near the machine and it sends air through the air straight into the tyre without taking the caps off the valves, its amazing it even knows what pressure to put in,,,but some have failed only putting a few laser beams of air into the tyre and kids are riding round on flat tyres causing a decrease of about 3mph on most scooters,,,,,,close to what youve lost on your top speed

'bum bandit'... are these meant to be insults or do you get them off your little niece/nephew? son/daughter?
They sound very similar to the insults my little baby cousin uses

    What year is this scoot?
The katana i sold recently did more or less the same thing. I thought, at least, that at 40mph it was screaming it's nuts off, and I didn't like it that way. But other people said it sounded fine. All I did was went up 1/2 a gram on the rollers, 3 gram overall i think it was, can't remember if it was 5 or 6 in there. To me it sounded better, but i didn't really notice any major difference. The katana already had a lower than standard gearbox so the acceleration was great, loads better than most of the other scoots out there. It may be that you have this gearbox, depending on what year it is.
Or you could fit a gear-up, it will pull it. And drop the revs.

Swapped the rollers out for a set of 7.5g. becos thats all I had. No wonder it was behaving like that, the old rollers were worn down alot and they were sqaured off at the edges, plus they were the wrong size for my variator!! Guy who had the bike before me was obviously clueless. Anyway They've made a massive difference. It no longer only does 45 and screams it flies past 45 at much lower revs and carrys on going!

And accyuklad, mine does 50-55mph. which is about right for a stock scoot with a pipe. No scoot without a bore will do 65mph..

Cheers for the reply Steve but its an 09' SR, so its the Piaggio engine not the katana engine. Thanks anyway, sorted now
