I just bought an Italjet 180 engine and it came in pieces. I am having some issues in finding a good diagram showing how this gearbox goes together properly. The guy I bought it from had it assembled in the case but I am not sure if its right. I want to know where the washers go and I am a bit confused on how this clutch bell is held on. The input shaft sticks out past the clutch bell and it looks as though it goes through the variator cover. I am just wondering if there is any washers or spacers that I may be missing.
There should be atleast a washer before the transmission case goes on and one after if that makes sense and thats about i think. Definitely nothing goes behind the clutch. What youre describing is the 'rolling nut' type engine where the nut for the clutch is outside of the transmission case..dont know how it works but it does. Ive got a complete one of the same type in case you need any double checking etc..
If you could get me some pics showing where everything goes I would be VERY grateful!! I really dont want to mess this thing up. On other thing that I find a bit strange is that once the gearbox cover is bolted up the input shaft can slide further into the gearbox. I guess that you just have to be careful not to push it in until you tighten the nut on the outside of the variator cover. Here is a pic of my gearbox assembly. I am not sure if I have the shims in the right place.
