i just put a new engine (cases and crank) in my bike as i snapped my old one. and its started to run shit again, it did it a few months ago and it sorted itself out and ran perfect. but now its doing it again.. basically, when im at lights it ticks over really low and if i sit still with it running, when i pull off again it splutters alot and theres alot of smoke (its like the oil just builds up while im not riding) or like the choke is stuck on or something?? but its not stuck its fine cratch: its killing spark plugs and just generally runs shit when going less than about 30-40.. only goes well when i full throttle.. ive dropped the needle to the bottom notch, running a 100 main jet.. no airfilter (it fell off but was fine before) oh and on my way home it just died completely when i was on about 3/4 throttle doing about 60, tried a different plug but no joy. ale: ale: could it just be from me putting loads of oil in and around the crank when i built it? i really dont know..someone help me please
naa oil would of burnt out now, check for air leaks and check your seals variator and fly wheel side. have you played around with your idle mixture screw ?
do the basics, check from the air box to the reeds mate then if theres no luck look into the CDI all i can think it is is your spark is dim or somethings up with your reeds, but id advise getting a airfilter in ASAP! its winter you dont want to be sucking up water ALSO! try unpluggin your auto choke becuase i was having a problem sort of like this just without the dying out lol Hope this helped :good: :hello:
yeah joe ive fucked with the idle mix a bit, only because it wasnt running right i the 1st place though.. dont seem to be changing anything. i found out why it died last night, that was the plug cap.. got a new one just now and its running again, but still running like a bag of piss. im gonna check reeds etc tommorow. anyone think it could be the rings?? minor??
not a good idea running a 2 stroke with no air filter, the incoming fuel and oil mix is used primarily for combustion and then secondarily for keeping the engine lubricated... so to cut a long story short, your lubricating your engine with oil and road grit, not to mention grit getting into your reeds and carb, causing all manor of running issues... i hate to sound a bore, but please fit an air filter, just incase your engine isnt already knackered
yeah i hear it.. but i havent had one for about a month and a half and it ran fine without, my bore looked alright when i had it off about a week ago aswell.. but yeah i need to get one, that stays on longer than a day lol
Things change quickly my son unfortunalty :eh: just like my runner one day the auto choke was working perfectly and the next day it just packed in :cray:
youre obviously not reading what im saying properly, it used to do it before even with an airfilter... i dont get that much shit in my carb anyway because i got an angled tube on my carb facing upwards
doesent matter atall tbh... still not a good idea.. and people are trying to say, alot of shit moves around your back wheel in a rainy week, it could have killed it already.. get one on there as you said it had problems wiht a filter tho id say check reedss also.. make sure the pump pipe (from under the reedblock to the fuel pump) isnt broken anywhere.. the rubber in ALL runners will be breaking down by now, the newest old shape runner is an 03 afterall.. so thats 5 years of wet/cold weather to rip the pipes to bits deffo sounds air leek/idle curcit related.. could whip the bottom of the carb off and have a lil look/clean of all the jets.. could just be that the engine has fucked oil seals? did the old engine run fine wiht the carb setup as it is or is it another carb? is your fuel tap working ok? is the secondary fuel tank filling completly up at idle or does it run out if left (whip the side pannel off and look...) could be lots, but sounds fuel/air related like i said.
allright m8, im not nagging either lol, its up to you i mean its your bike, but a friend of mine was running no filter and we was out on a ride 1 day and his bike just cut out and we ended up pushing him home lol, when we got home we checked his reeds and we found a stone wedged between his reeds and reed block. he was VERY LUCKY. so yh, i wouldnt even ride my bike with no filter lol.
since i got the raised s6 manifold i cant get one to stay on.. obviously i dont like not having one.. i just havent found one that stays on longer than 20 mins
finally got it running good again    i remembered what i did last time, which was change the variator to a 180 one and change rollers (my vari was fucked and rollers were lasting a for a day lol) so i changed the 3 most worn 12.5g rollers to some new 10g ones.. and cleaned up the variator i think it has something to do with me still using the standard magneto that came on the new engine, when i was using a lightened one on my last engine. gonna get the srt one back on tommorow and some new 12.5s then it should be perfect again
