Hi I have a jinlun 125 scooter and I needed a new battery as the old one had no life in it so I tried putting the new one in and I connected the positive wire to the positive thermal on the battery no bother but as soon as that negative wire touches the negative thermal there sparks really bad so I tried later on and it done the same except it had started to melt the negative thermal the sparks where that bad it look like it was on fire, the keys wernt evan in the bike they were still hanging up LOL,, and I'm scared to try again, can anyone help me please??
Deffo sounds like a short somewhere. You'd have to start at the battery wiring and check the whole loom over really.
Basically you should check for wires that have come loose/frayed/split etc and that all the earths are in good condition. Its a short to ground more than likely and I reckon it will be something near to the battery Has anything electrical been changed or anything since the other battery was in it? I know on some bigger scooters if you connect the battery with the ignition on it will spark but you said you didn't have the keys in so its probably not why
i have stripped the front where the battery is and the wires seem to be fine, the black and red wires are cable tied to the frame still lead up to this round thing hallf way up and it has a thing metal bit sticking out, i would upload some pictures but i dont know how as im new lol
Ive never worked on one of these so i cant say for sure whats what but its defintely a bad circuit somewhere rather than a component. Are all the earths grounded properly to the frame? All the contact points clean? Defintely no frayed wires or wires that have lost some of their covering? Strange electrical problems tend to have alot more head stratching involved than any other type of problem unfortunately
what does all the earths grounded to the frame mean? and yeah they all seem clean and no frayed wires that i could see, im stumped and to be totally honest to scared to try the battery again as it could explode if it keeps on sparking lol
