i recently had trouble with getting petrol to my top end, fixed that but was running very poorly at like 1000 rpm on full throttle, so i replace the gaskets in the top end and now it just wont start and after about 6-7 kicks it just lets something out of the exhaust its not liquid or smoke its more just a big puff of air. i replaed spark plug as it had a very poor spark but still wont start. any ideas?? cheers tom
Check the connection on the spark plug, the wires may be lose that was one of my problems, just a puff of air from the exhaust and not runing after I reved it high however you may have different problem, always helps to check ;-)
spark plug is connected perfectly and making a fine spark. the puff of air i was getting from the exhaust doesnt happen as often. still doesn't get anywhere near starting. this is probably errelivant but petrol light comes on. (i have an almost full tank so its not empty lol)
just remember its 50 quid an hour labour and that starts from when they start working..they still will have to strip bike down probs and find the problem could be 1-2 hours work then they have to fix it your looking at minimum around the 100quid mark...
i no its a proper c**t but only way the bikes gunna get back on the road, cant seem to find the problem, barrel and piston fine, got a spark cranks fine reed blocks fine, carbs fine, got compression, it just seems to turn over but not start. i aint got a great mind for mechanics soo fuck it. dad said he'd pay and i can pay him back. seems the best way to do it lol
if theres no fumes coming from the exhaust, then theres no compresion in the cylinder when you replaced the gaskets you put the piston rings back on ? and on properly ?
take plug out and put your finger over the hole (like youd do to stop liquid comin out of a poo bottle) and then kick it. if your finger gets pushed out u got some compression if it dont then summut up
again, this test workls wiht a piston split in half..... silly tests are a waste of time and will tell you nothing. if in doubt, take it out and have a LOOK. or plain dont mess with things you dont understand/cant fix when they go wrong.
bloomin ell wouldnt have expected it to work if piston fucked :O but yer best bet is to look i just dont like telling people who dont liek taking engine apart to do it
couple posts up reads "i replace the gaskets in the top end" meaning he can check... its supposedly fine aswell so he says.. so ye. whip the plug out, wiht the ignition off and the bike at full throttle have a friend kick it over... put your hand infront of the plug hole (not close) and see if you can sm,ell/feel petrol comming out. if so then its getting fuel. somthings amis for it to nmot work at full throttle in the first place. not missing a vacumm pipe is it?
try the woodluff key or what ever its called i had the exact same problem and its a pound in a bike shop u just gta dremel it to the perfect size but it coulbe be that if the magneto aint on correct or tight enough it'll break constantly
put some petrol down the spark plug hole and reassemble the plug and leads, try starting it and if it fires up for a few seconds then cuts out again you know that its fuel not getting there because when you put the fuel there it runs fine.. if putting fuel down the hole makes no difference then you may have a compression or spark issue, your sure your spark is healthy so it leaves compression which could be a few things like rings, gasket not done properly, reeds maybe..
it only needs good compression, good spark and good fuel mixture to starts. so erm, start checking mate, check the jets aint blocked?
well think somwhere else.... if it dont run without a starting gas somthings wrong, if it does start wiht easy start its literally gonna be running on that and no oil. you will end up killing somones bike. if it runs it runs, if it dont its fucked.. easy start/wd40 (ye that works too) is there for removing condensation and raising octains in engines that dont get alot of work, usualy OLD 2 stroke tractors.. its dangerous stuff and can kill engines in the wrong hand's.. DONT USE IT
