if your rich drop the needle.. ajust the idle (usually outwards to lean) to the point it idles highest at (with the idle screw set fast) then reset the idle speed. should come off throttle fine after this. main jet is about sound an feel

    Alreet folks,

Have been lurking around and reading as much as poss on tuning. Could really do with some advice on getting motor right now I can test it properly.

    Finally on the road:

Bit more clued up on tuning now ( know jack sh*t really ), but think motor is long way off from running right..

    Currently:

    Good -Starts/ticks over fine
Good - Pulls through idle jet nice and strong, and on to main jet around 40mph (I am guessing this from distinct change in engine noise).
Bad - Checked spark-plug after first 40 miles, dark brown/black.
Bad - If I turn out the air/fuel screw to make mix leaner then loses power in lower revs.

Yamaha 4VP with 22mm PHVB Delorto on 115cc cylinder, gentle taper needle is at 3 of 4 notches up from the bottom and air/fuel screw is 2 turns out (approx). Running 50:1 premix. Polini vario has 6X 7.5g rollers (maybe a bit light??)

Have BR8HS spark-plug fitted, guide says should be gapped at 0.6-0.7mm. Have fitted straight from box, should I have gapped it first?

    Any advice would be appreciated...Cheers.
