Hi folks, I'm hoping you can help me again! I ain't ridden my "51" for a few weeks, I've come to use the old girl again, and it won't keep running! It starts ok and but just won't run, it just dies on me! It's got a new battery, fuel, and good spark!? It will start with the dredded easy start, but again won't keep going! So any ideas?? Please help!! I need the the mrs off my back!!!
problem is probably the fuel pump or piping to it, on the crank case there's a pipe comes out, runs over the top of the engine, and to the pump on the side of the tank (right side if i remember right) the problem is either the diafragm inside the pump or the vaccum pipe that runs from the crank case to the pump. try running a separate fuel supply to the carb ona garvity feed. if it runs ok then your pump is the issue. mine did it on 2 occasions. first time was the pipe, second was the pump.
Had a look at the pipe work all fine, the pump is...err...pumping! So took the float chamber off removed the jets, blew them out, back together and.... It starts better then ever! First flick of the kick start or touch of the starter! And keeps running!!!! And best of all, feels a bit more peppy!!! Thanks for the pointers chaps! Your legends!
