I would like to get a little more grunt out of my Akra slip on. When it is out it is incredibly noisy. I am positive that it won't do any damage to it or the bike as it is designed to run with it in or out. But in theory, will it make it a little louder/deeper?
I am not taking it out. I want to shorten it. Cut the baffle piping. Was inquiring if anyone has done this and how much is too much? Like a little more grunt so would 1cm be about right?
Assuming this is on a 4 stroke. I had a ybr 125 and fitted a leo vince system. With the baffle out it was very very noisy and lost a lot of power. With it fitted it sounded good initially and had more performance but became tiresome on a longer journey. Actually ADDING 2inches to the bafffle length gave an acceptable noise level and a small improvement again in performance. The extension was just a piece of tube that slipped snugly over the old baffle stub and was drilled and tapped to accept a grub screw to hold it on. If you really want to shorten yours 1cm at a time is a nice amount to try, remember you can always add the length back with a piece of tube like I did
And being a 4t you won't gain any real noticeable power just the noise, it's the down pipe length/diameter that makes a 4t engine work, that's why there's pipes on the market that have a 180 degree loop in them.
I shortened the pipe and it made no difference. Instead I got 5 small 3/4cm holes drilled into the baffle around the insert but was pumping out too loud of a noise even though it sounded great. I sealed up 3 of 5 and it is definately louder. It has a lovely rumble and at high rev it still pumps out a very decent tone, but at a level that won't piss people off in a 1 mile radius. The performance does increase with the baffle out and even though I only have 2 little holes, it feels a little more racey. Well, that's my personal opinion.
