    Hi Guys,

I bought my moped for £100 a couple of months back. It was bought as a project to sell on, however I am so impressed with it although with it being Chinese I am going to put it on the road in 9 months when I am 16. So far I am up to about £260 costs after buying various paint and parts to get it back into near as new condition. I don't have much money left to spend on it now. So I am looking for advice on what I could do to modify it cheaply? I don't want it to look too silly and possibly make it more attractive to steal for example. So subtle modifications only :D Any ideas please let me know :D

    When I bought the moped:

Looks good that, must be slow though being a 4 stroke.

For 40 quid you can ge a 72cc kit and some 4.5g rollers which will give it a kick up the arse, make sure the cdi is derestricted too ;)

I wouldn't bother putting in a big bore kit mate, too much hassle. I am a complete beginner with mopeds, so sorry to act dumb. What are rollers for? :$ Would they make any difference without the bore kit? What would they do? :D Sounds exciting :D Wouldn't know how to de-restrict the CDI is it worth de-restricting it for a year? I was considering it, but if you get caught they will do you for no licence and insurance. Will it make any difference to the acceleration? :D Need advice on all of this mate.

It isn't too slow, not had any experience with a 2 stroke moped. But it does pull quite well, as you would expect for a 50 :) Look forward to your reply :)

    Hi mate,

Fair enough if fitting the kit is too much hassle. The lighter rollers will let the engine rev higher and therefore accelrate better, same with the CDI.

As for the legalities of it, people rarely get nicked for 70cc kitted 2 strokes, i doubt having a derestricted 4 stroke will be too much hassle haha.

That actually looks pretty good, i like the wheels, makes the bike stand out a bit more than the silver ones :)

for £40 id get the 72cc kit..... bargain!

Chubz :- Thanks mate :D I was unsure about the black wheels at first, the orange wheel tapes set them off! Prefer them to the silver, stands out much more and looks more sporty! Is it easy to fit a big bore? If I fit a big bore kit.. I have to re-register it as a motorbike? And then I won't get insured on a moped licence and therefore I can be done for no licence?

FiddyRox can I just fit Rollers made by any company? I looked at a video last night and it looks pretty simple :) Where would I buy a non rev limited CDI? Wouldn't ever know where to find mine. Hahaha! I think it might be under one of the doers on the floor pan? Small black box? Have any of you got pulled for doing over 30 on a moped licence? Is it just a slap on the wrist or will they take it further? I would be prepared to de-restrict the CDI to make it rev higher :) Due to me not having a licence only got it up to 15 so far in my tiny street. So not sure of the top speed. The boy I bought it off didn't have a clue! I didn't get a reply when I asked if it was de-restricted. Could do with some better acceleration though :)

those aftermarket ones are a rip off, basically if there is a wire coming out the rear of your engine/transmission near where the wheel bolts on, cut it. Thats the restrictor.

And about re registering, well, you could do. But whos going to know? Your engine has big cooling shrounds covering up the cylinder, no one would ever know. Unfortunatly its harder to fit a big bore on a 4 stroke than it is on a 2 stroke though.

I can't see any obvious wires anywhere near where the drive casing is. If I took out the washer inside the drive casing and de-restrict it that way, will that improve acceleration?

If theres one there then removing it will improve top speed

Just had a really good look, I'm puzzled. No wire from the transmission. Took the drive asking off (Shit myself, the kickstand fell apart in my hands!) There is no washer in the drive casing? Must be electrically restricted in the CDI! I will try and get hold of the lad I bought it off again and ask what speed he got out of it. More worryingly, the engine oil is black. Just realised he has it for 3000kms/1800mls and my dads mate said they never bothered getting ANY service parts for the bike. I thought these were meant to have a service by every 1000 miles? God knows what the service history was like before. But the oil is black, service due I think.. What oil should I use?

Okay, just messaged him. He reckons he got 50 out of it? Yeh like fuck. Is that even possible lads? It don't look modified to me AT ALL

He is a bit of a spastic to be honest. I was hoping for an accurate spedo.. Especially if I was going to de-restrict it. If there ain't a wire from the transmission can you guarantee there would have been a restrictor in the casing? A washer?

will give you a quick guide to derestricting your scooter, the cdi is a little black box inder a panel somewhere, its going to have about 6 wires plugging into it, if its got a PINK wire, its probably restricted, follow the pink wire, it should go into your transmission near your back wheel, it might not be pink tho.
the washer in the transmission is Behind the outer pully, the outer pully is the bit that your kickstart/ starter motor engages with to start your bike (as you have the casing off and you are looking at it, its the pully at the front left). undo the nut (its about 17mm i think). behind that is your restrictor washer (its more of a spacer, but not the long one!) throw it in the trash! put it back together.
your bike might have a washer type thing welded in the exhaust header, take the exhaust off and look at the header, if its got a little washer thing in there, rip it out with a big screwdriver. jobs a good'un!!!

    Hi Mate

I know where my CDI is, it is under my floorpan :) I will have to look if it has a pink wire! I cant see any wires going into the transmission. If I cut a wire if there is one there.. I will be able to re-connect it if I wanted to restrict it again yes? I have already had the casing off, I failed to take the pulley off. It was too tight! I tried using a screwdriver against one of the bolts in the casing to stop it from moving.. still couldn't get it out! But I shined a torch in there.. and I couldn't find a washer. What does that do? does it add tension to the belt / slow the belt down? I am pretty sure there isn't anything in the exhaust. I will take it off tomorrow and double check though :D Cheers buddy

OK. So it was doing my head in. So I just went outside took off the exhaust, the rear wheel, all the rear plastics, bellypan and partially took off the floorpan. I couldn't find any pink wire coming off the CDI. And no wired going into the transmission at all. I have taken pictures of what you said about.

    Exhaust without spacer:

Exhaust with spacer (i believe it is just a standard spacer. As it does not affect the air flow in any way and the engine is moulded for it to slot in to:

Here is the port on the engine, I couldnt see anything obvious to limit the air:

Here are the wires that come off the CDI:

I believe it is just a standard CDI?

This is the only wire that goes direct into the engine. I believe it is for the cooling as that is where it goes in to:

Rear of transmission, as you can see.. no wires. Only the rear brake cable and the oil overflow:

Also.. what is this on the front of the engine? It looks like a brace to protect the head to me:

If you can help me from this information I would really appreciate it.

If you look on the CDI connector, theres an empty plug. Thats where the restrictor wire would go.

Now that im thinking about it, these bikes are commonly restricted in the carb. Take off the black plastic cap on the top of the carb by undoing the two screws, and post up a picture of the underside of the cap. There may be a screw that stops the throttle opening fully.

I am mainly worried about being able to sell it after it has been de-restricted. Would it put anybody off if it was? Also are the speedos quite accurate? I don't want to get caught speeding mate. Just spoken to my father. And after me being underneath the bike and having paint off the frame falling on me.. we are going to strip it again this winter.. but fully this time! And drop the engine and paint the frame. Is it easy to drop an engine?
