how is the best way to remove the front panel on a mk1 zip , do i have to disconnect the front caliper and drop down the forks or is it possible to remove the panel if i remove the front wheel and mudguard any tips appreciated

I toyed with the idea of unbolting the front panel, removing the wheel & caliper and then unbolting the front mudguard in the hope that I could rotate the panel and mudguard around each other to allow the panel to be coaxed off without damage or having to drop the forks. Being as I've not had to take the panel off again i've not had a chance to try the theory
