Mirrors on fairings

I have a Suzuki ay50 and the threads on brakes for my mirrors are wrecked ive re-tapped them the metal has gone to pot its a no go so i wondered if anyone has attached mirrors on there scoots fairings and if so how did you go about it without cracking the bodywork? pics would be helpful thanks.
