Im looking to pickup a cheap laptop and have seen these and they look pretty cool.

    Anyone tried these?
    Know anybody who has one?

Looking for one to use to generally browse the web, play music, occasional downloads, occasional word proccessing. Nothing too demanding for it.

Long shot but hey, Anybody ?

£170 in highstreet retailers like PCworld etc,

Thing Im not sure on is the memory, apparently you can get an SSD card uto 16bg to work on them, but is that all? Can you not use an external HD??

sorry i missed this, i been lurking for a while see

i use an eeepc, sick little things, external hdds work fine, although with linux the 20gb SSD is plenty for such a small thing.

id go for it, theyre brilliant and because linux is open source you can tweak it to be absolutely perfect!

Oh never thought about a 20GB SD. Does that not slow it down a little? Loading files (music from it)

I was thinking to pick one up and use my external HD (£30) but that kind of defeats the object of having something so small and an external HD hanging off it ? Even price wise that boosts the total upto £200.. can pickup a budget laptop sometimes for that... Hmmmm

Extenal hard drive would make it a lot slower to load things than an SD card. Plus like you say, extra weight and bulk to carry around which defeats the object of getting one.
Wouldn't even notice and SD card in there.

i meant SSD, as in solid state drive which is what the eee pc uses instead of a hard drive.

i also have a 4gb SD card, loads nice n fast still
