Last night on the way to work, one or both of the exhaust studs from the cylinder head managed to work themselves loose & fell out. (my error for not tightening them up enough after removing the exhaust earlier that day, to paint). Managed to make the approx 15miles into work, then this morning, when on the way back home... I managed to finaly seize the engine Had to get recovered by my insurance company back home. Just before it seized, the engine made a loud rattle, then died. I'm wondering if it could be stripped & freed off & rebuilt again, with say some new pistons rings, etc... If it is badly seized, any suggestions on how I will be able to remove the cylinder head from the crankcase (with the engine still in the bike) ? I let it cool down & tried to starter, but the engine is definatley seized. Oh public transport, how I loathe you so!!!
Quite unlucky if it happened so quickly to be honest with just the open exhaust... Very hard to tell without looking at it , chances are you will need at least a new piston and rings... for the prices those go for you are sometimes better buying a full kit again depening on what you had installed. If badly damaged you might have to change the full kit anyway. Hopefully no damage to the engine bloc and crank though or that could be costly! Only one way to find out...
as it's a Ali kit, Your bore will more than likely be fucked too. sad to say. Take the engine out and pull it all apart, could of fecked the crank bearings too. as least if you're lucky you'll need a new pair of rings.
Below is a pic of where I managed to walk it to the day the engine seized... Just now put the ped in the front room, where the R1 has been resting since about September 2011... It's too cold outside, so I'm gonna set to on taking the ped's engine out, or atleast make it more accessible for getting the cylinder head off, to see what kind of damage has been done when it's seized
Just took the cylinder head off & removed the piston... Looks like the little end needle bearings have given way The bore is quite bad too, so looks like a new cylinder kit is required. FFS! All this has happened from the exhaust not having any bolts in (they vibrated loose due to my fault)
I'm now considering this... http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/a-c-to-l-c-minarelli-conversion-questions.24118/
