    your missing the SPACER

stock dont use them, malossi do... second hand parts are never worth what you pay for them

ye thanks for that.... now ignorance aside you need a SPACER ASWELL as all the washers... messure the var tube, its shorter... ramps on the backplate are ALOT steeper hence it sits further forward

this happened to me mate on my bike as well mate with a standard crank, u cant use another spacer cause it will make everything sit further out and u wont be able to tighten up the last variator nut up,i ended up just putting it on the crack and tightening it uo ran sweet as, the teeth arnt ment to catch the standard cranks teeth, they are ment for the malossi cranks, dont worry about it tho i was also worried, but if you look at the polini variator ;) there plate doesnt even have teeth, so stick it on and when it all tightens up it will be fine :)

up2 you, but they arnt any teeth on the crank so thats ok, and the variator teeth are there for malossi cranks, even tho it woudnt matter cause you dont need the teeth on the variator :) but hope you sort it out mate and let us know what the extra performance is like :)

if you run it with no spacer the front pulley (outer) wil sit behind the splines meaning the wound up nut DOESENT clamp anything together.. this will chew a crank. i have a malossi variator in my hand, with a spacer.. would you like a pic of a dissasembled engine with the malossi variator all laid out in order? you CANT just leave the spacer.. as for the teeth, no there not needed, but 1mm difference on the fariator makes ALOT of difference to the variator.. removing a 5mm spacer WILL mean everythings loose and its a plain idiot move

yeh you need the spacer that comes with the variator but i didnt know you could/had to add spacers onto it? woudnt it just make it sit further out? and it would still miss the crack teeth anyways? so he should just run it with the malossi variator standard thick washer? is that what you mean :nerd:

i was jus worryed bout the teeth on the variator back plate not lockin on to cranks splines but if u say they dont matter shall i jus wack it on like that
    cheers

your missing a spacer... on the crank sits the oil drive gear, a washer, a spacer, the backplate, variator shaft, variator, another washer, the front pulley, another washer, the starter dog then another washer.... IF your running 125 rolers (19mm as opposed to the 180 20mm) you move the washer from the rear to between the shaft and outer pulley (so therewss 2) if the splines dont lock to the teeth somthings worn. ether the crank or the variator backplate. ether way its not needed as like people stated they dont have teeth on polini ones.. some outer pulleys dont even have teeth and run fine (its about correct nm on the nut)

alot of confusion in this thread (mostly me being an arse) like i said tho i can put a pic of ALL the parts in the correct order for both 125 and 180 rollers. it DOES matter and 1mm washers DO make ALOT of difference to performance and belt life. the 2 pulleys HAVE to be in the correct place for optimum performance.

i think that would be a good minor.

line them out for the 125 and 180 and post pics in the guides bit.

    would help.

been a few posts on this really.
