Hi all im new to all this stuff...I have a 2001 Piaggio Zip 50cc 2t.. my question is?? I have been given some malossi rollers and i be leave black molossi clutch springs. would my bike benefit from these being fitted at all both have only done around 3 miles then removed from the bike. thank you
I believe your spring is configured to operate according to rev range or engage as such by design,an your rollers have effect on acceleration or top-end via weight.
Hi if your scoot works well- leave the rollers alone. But you might put stiffer springs in the clutch. It will give you a bit more blast off. Nice scoot the zip. I saw a guy on a track with a zip about 6 years ago. It was an open day and he was being chased by two dudes on KTM supermotos. They couldn't catch him. This is how I got into this in the first place. I thought, 'I want some of that!'.
...... "I Want some of That! " ...... And the 2013 Quote of the Year award Goes to..................................................... .
thanks for the comments.. yes it runs kind of ok at mo takes a while to get to full speed but even when it hits that it tops 41mph..TBH i could do with a little more bite and and top end.would it benifit from the springs and maybe a new a carb jet do you think?? Thanks
Think most allie upjet with an aftermarket pipe or derestricted standard as an early 'improvement' start., Loads you could do to uprate your performance to configure your 'ped as it should be- starting off in baby steps- smart move 'sted of just wacking a load on an possibly f.....g it up. .
yh im with you on that pal.I only raelly use the bike for work so a top a 50 ish mph would be fine,,im not raelly wanting to go the whole 70 kit way as not to bothered about it...at the mo it has a YASUNI exhaust and double foam filter on i also got told its not the standard carb to,,,how could i check if the bike has been fully de restricted as i heard standard they should do around 31mph (may be wrong) and mine only dose 41 with the exhaust and filter ow and if it help's i think in the carb is a 85 jet and garage said standard rollers. thanks
I would say yours 'peds not restricted...but not as well as it could be, general it revolves around exhaust, carb.,air filter, cdi, rollers / heading on then you'd be moving into tuning it and whilst fun, you'd be dropping % in overall longetivity an reliability.
cheers mate..im new to all of this as just started out on this bike lol..thanks for all your help so im guessing i may need to get it looked at in the garage then as i have no clue about tuning these things id just be happy with that little more mph and power..and dont want to be letting some back yard mechanic mess with it to
If you've got a pipe - as Mark says - it should do a bit better. When you're at 40 is the engine screaming or is it plodding ? Don't knock garden mechanics. There are some pretty good garden mechanics out there - and some pretty awful so called 'professionals'......
Like MR. T. above said, there are a fair few backstreet 'mechanics' about but also some very highly skilled naturals as well, i'd say if you do resort to a mechanics, then at least if you're not as knowledgeable as you say / have a poke about a bit, ask lots of ? dumb or not- cause on sites like this especially, they're are some kids more than 1/2 my age that have a skill set I could only dream of!,an to not pay some attention to that would be wasting a tremendous resource!- Apart from that,it'd clue you up a bit so's a mechanic won't make a black-hole out of your wallett, Cause frankly if you walk in there lacking in the heads-up....he/she? will spot you coming a mile away.mk. .
cheers''' and i know what you mean about mechanics lol,,,,,,the last time it whent was to street machine's in stapleford Nottingham,,they did a nice job as they fitted my oil pump and changed the belt for me as it was pre mix when i got the bike.
Last mechanic I went to 'bout mid 90's, took my triple in ...... An it came back a single!!! 3(ouch) 2(oops) 1(maybe I can persuade him to push it home before he starts it). .
I'd start by reducing the roller weight by about a gram total. Then have a look at the plug and decide whether it wants a slightly bigger jet. 2 points up to start off. And putting some stiffer springs in the clutch. And maybe having a twiddle of the air screw (an eighth of a turn clockwise (richer) to start with - Good luck -
