    I have a aprilia sportcity one 50cc 2T.
After months of tuning I have got the bike running beautifully, kicking out 50mph and with great acceleration.

My problem is I have a Malossi MHR exhaust and I thought id remove all the silencers sound reducing material, to make it louder and faster (was told it would improve top end)

I know have a very noisy bike that only does 40mph and poorer acceleration. Lol

Is this due to there being a less direct path for the exiting airflow thus creating more back pressure and reducing performance?
if I repack the exhaust again will it be quieter and improve performance?
If so in theory, the more packed the silencer the quieter and quicker the bike will be?

    Cheers,
    Oliver

the exhaust packing helps create back presure which two strokes need to run.

Also, to answer your last question, too much packing wont be effective. You need the right amount.

    Ahh okay :)
I'll experiment with different amounts of packing when I get some more (should be Saturday when it arrives).

    Cheers guys,
    Oliver

Still can't get my old performance back.
Could someone please tell me the ideal way to repack a exhaust silencer.
I think I've tried everything but someone else's opinion would be appreciated especially if it works because I don't know what I've done wrong.
I have a new silencer arriving soon but would like to get this one working as well.

did you take your exhaust fully off? if so make sure youve tightened it up to the barrel correctly and the gasket is tight and theres no blowing from that joint

    Tommo10 -
Cheers mate, did check that and was definitely sealed.
The problem got sorted, I just packed it differently and it worked but having to buy a new silencer and gasket anyway as the support bolts have snapped off mine :(
