any 1 know how often you should lube the chain on a bike and when do you know if the sprockets need changing (any symptoms )

    OK,

I'd lube the chain once every two weeks in the Summer and weekly in the Winter. The teeth on the rear sprocket will look 'hooked' when they are worn, as the load-bearing edge of the tooth will wear away and it will like like a wave. The adjustment will also be at the end of it's travel.

DON'T replace the chain without changing the sprockets too, of the new chain will get wrecked really quickly by the worn teeth of the sprockets.

The best lubricants are a chain grease that you melt in a tin, then place the chain in, or a spray grease aerosol that leaves a sticky film behind that won't throw off as you ride.

bad news for me then took the bike for a service the original plan was to get the valve clearances set then i get a call saying theres a few things that need replacing and they came back with chain and sprockets tyres and a rubber seal for the carb so was just wondering what i will need to use to look after them once they have been fixed

Castrol, Fuchs and Rocol do excellent ranges of chain lubricants. Stick with the majors and you can't go wrong.
