ok, over the last few days or so it seems asif im loosing power/torque, it seems that revs are dropping, and are struggling to climb, it also gets alot worse on hills etc, its also seemed to have lost 'wheelie power'. I dont think this is rollers as they are about 3 weeks old.. and werre running sweet.. any ideas?
plug was my first thought, all looks good, also a nice crisp brown colour.. could a worn belt cause this? belt measures 15.9 in width,
you say in your description: in my experiance, A worn belt tends to slip on the pulleys, causing the revs to be higher...
i'll upload a pic of the sparky for your opinion, in my expierence when my variator and belt was worn it wasntpicking up revs, maybe that was because the variator was worn and im linking the belt to this.. if it's not the spark plug or belt do you have any other ideas?
Im just a bit curious on this dave, how can loss of revs be caused by a spark plug? due to weaker spark or? or the lead? (not being a dick just curious to see how its possible) i understand that if its a weak spark, shit performance ect but this is new to me
The edges on the centre electrode have started to round off, meaning your plug has seen better days.... Theres a lot of bull shit spoken about spark plugs, im going to tell you the only difference between a worn out plug and a brand new plug...sharp edges when you buy a new plug, put the new plug and the old plug side by side, look carefully at the electrodes, the old plug will have signs of spark erosion, the edges of the electrodes will have started to round. The brand new plug will have sharp edges, sparks require less arc over voltage to jump from sharp edge to sharp edge...its as simple as that also its worth making sure its gapped correctly, the plug gap will increase as the electrodes erode....
gave the plug a good clean up with brake cleaner, petrol and a wire brush, cleaned all of after, and put it back in. no change whatso ever. there is also a big dip in revs at around about 30mph, once past 40 mph the revs build up fast again.. the spark plug is now clearly in better condition than it was last week when i didnt have this problem. im convinced this is a transmission problem, but what i dont know... any help appreciated, thanks. p.s quick thought, the weather has gotten alot colder over the last week, could this be due to a up-jet needed for the winter?
So you haven't done what dave said and you have come to the conclusion that it isn't what he said it could be? Sounds odd to me.
if the plug was in better condition now than it was before the problem started how can this be the problem?
like i said, the plug is now in bettre condition than before the problem occured but i will buy a new plug tomorrow in the morn jus to rule this out!
As terro said, youve probably got a very clean worn plug now..... Heres a picture ive scanned out of a book i have at home, explaining the difference between a worn plug and a new plug.... you can buy a little file for reprofiling worn spark plugs, mechanics reprofiled spark plugs all the time back in the day, i still do
thanks for the input dave, bought a new spark plug today it was BETTER not clearing the problem 100%, as i thought it may be the winter coldness i upjetted from a 96 jet to a 101 as i had one lying around, thisgot rid of the 'bog' around 30mph, althought it still seems to has lost some power in the bottom end. Hopefully my 21mm carb should be here tomorrow, and im hoping this will solve all this problem. thanks again,
