Im looking at buying a malossi 172 kit also a new crank. I was just wondering what would be best to get out of the 54mm long stroke or 54mm full circle crank. I also have seen a 55mm crank would that be any good ? Also ive herd a few different things about billet heads is the pm tuning with the skull cap worth getting or is the bgm one just as good with the standard skull cap. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks.
try go for the pm tuning pro street 2 instead of malossi then you will get the billet head and skull cap. and 54mm and 55mm cranks will need port correction so unless your going to pay to have it done just stick with a 52mm full circle crank mate
Or don't as the PM stuff is over priced Chinese copies. BGM and a 172 on a 52 stroke is a good combo and doesn't need an expert to do the port correction to stop the 54 or 55 detonating.
Thanks for the advice. Im sendind my engine to get flowed and the malossi head ported and polished. Will that be alryt with the 54mm crank ? With that being done aswell will i need to get a bigger carb or just get it getted ?
Sorry for hijacking your thread but roughly how much would it cost to set it up for a long stroke crank and will it blow up quicker thanks josh
Cuki, you've already been told you'd need basically a 2 stroke expert tuner to do the port correction if you use a long stroke crank. That is a completely different job to getting the crank cases flowed. one wrong move on the cylinder kit and you end up with a chip in the nicasil and you may aswell chuck it in the bin. Unless you know the person has done it successfully many times, stick with the 52mm crank as advised. "thanks for the advice but can I still use a 54mm crank" isn't really listening to the advice of people who have a lot more knowledge than you on this subject.
