My condo sold yesterday. The buyer has 15 days to back out, so nothing is sure in real estate in the U.S. until the money is in the bank. So it is me, a cat, and a few bucks in my pocket. Over here you can buy a piece of land inexpensively. I intend to buy a small place (1/2 acre) and put a tiny house on it. (look up "tiny house movement". I can do this for $7000 - $10,000 U.S. I will be mortgage free, debt free. Wish my old a$$ luck, why not take a chance while I can still do this $hit?
Ok, well, i just looked at The Tiny House Movement. DUDE!!!! Why do you lot have to build your homes out of wood and put wheels on them??? It's just a different looking trailer, thats all. And when you have a high wind.................... Yes, buy some land, 2/3rd of an acre at least, big enough to grow your own food on and sell the excess to the neighbours that will see an income that will allow you to purchase through the out of season times. But at least build your home out of bricks and mortar with a good roof..................and NO FREAKIN' WHEELS.
Best part about tiny houses, they can be sold for a profit..... See where I am going. Build one, sell it, use the money to build two, etc.......
According to the figures i saw on them, a self build cost around $23000, unless it's a misprint. I'm not doubting your talents, but to build and sell on is a slower way to make a profit given the amount of time to do the job.
It is about $5k for materials over here. Use Craig's list for free stuff and the amazing amount of architectural salvage here, and it is inexpensive. $25k US is retail for a Tiny House. You get 90% discounts on mis-made windows if you are willing to cut the hole to fit the window, instead of the other way around. I hear you, I can buy a 32' 1962 trailer, rip everything off the frame. Rebuild the axels and bearings. Bonus $12k trailer for $100 bucks and labor. I am not afraid to get dirty. I also own a sand blaster and know a powder coater that owes me money ;-) I spent my summers as a carpenter's helper in the '70s. Built cars and big bikes all my life. I don't see immediate problems..... but they do happen. I think it sounds like a good project, and the market is large over here. If you have an acre next to a national forest, you live in your yard and sleep and cook in the tiny house. Ask Mark, it is dryer over here, and most people spend most of their time outside.
Feel like strippng off & running down the street, warbling the theme tune to the sound of music now,so I do..
Not jealous, just a little concerned. Would it not be a better idea to buy used, renovate and re-sell instead? Half the work involved and still a possible good profit margin.
Reading into this.....? - tidying up someone's mess, would be one thing- creation'd be a whole different ballgame, what with the associated feelings and personal satifaction and fullfillment envolved.
The worm turned today. I purchased a newer 34 foot 5th wheel today. The place where I am putting it is about 16 miles out of town in the "county". Very nice. So the lifestyle freefall, er ah, freefall lifestyle starts. Tomorrow the dealer moves the trailer to a Native American RV park. Mark probably knows, but the rest of the world doesn't realize there are several separate nations within the U.S. These are owned by Native Americans, or "Indians" by treaty. Amazing oasis' in the desert of insane laws. I will be living inside another nation, in California. The Nation is only a mile square, but it has a very successful Las Vegas style casino, so they have lots of money. Nothing like living in a tax free zone in the most heavily taxed state in the U.S. That and I am really out in the country is pretty darn nice.
Alway's fancyed living somewhere/where they shoveled off the native population - So they could nick, all the good stuff...
