Hi, I have a pleasingly quick midrace setup with s6 Racing, R1200 and S6 HPC crank etc. I was just wondering what sort of life expectancy the main bearings and big end bearing on the crank have in this state of tune. Its spinning at 12k rpm most of the time with the occasional blast up to 14k. Have done about 1200 miles on it so far and piston and ring still seem good as new. Only casualty so far hasd been a snapped drive belt (thanks Zipmad of scooter nations for selling me a knackered belt and a variator with parts missing as "good condition")
should last for quite some time. It's the rings & roller cages you need to watch out for. Replace after 4000 miles or so. It really is worth the effort.
thanks, what if I were to take the engine a bit further with the right pipe and porting so it ends up running around 14k most of the time? Im trying to work out how far I can take my build and still have it reliable on the road, even if service intervals for ring replacement etc end up at 1500miles or so. A top end can be rebuilt in an hour or two, however getting the engine out and split takes a bit of time. The stock stage6 racing with an r1200 is surprisingly tractable and usable daily, reasonable fuel economy too. Which tells me there is more to be had from it as its not undriveable yet ;l)
Something like 3-4k miles on my HPC now with a similar set up. Bearings are the only real concern. Would be surprised if it needed a look at more than once a year/8 months in any case though. I'm a fix it when it breaks kind of person when it comes to cranks tbh though lol
