Hi I have a UK provisional licence which I have held since 1988 on it it says I have 4 categories. Am from 2017 A from 1996 B from 1988 And fghjkl from 88 My question relates to the A. Everywhere I have read category A means you can ride any bike but the dvla Cs handler said I can only provisionally rude any bike and can only ride a 125. I tried explaining even if I took the theory and practical test tomorrow I would still only have a provisional license as I haven't got a car license. I passed my second last scooter test on a 125cc vespa in 1988 and I know licenses and the categories have changed a few times since then. There is no restrictions listed under section 12 on my licence Check code for my license is this. hZ kY NG Lr This is where in confused as it says I can ride a motorcycle over 35kw or one under 35kw Any help clarifying this would be appreciated thanks.
Don't know if it's any help.? - I've category 'A' since '91 ,full licence status (any bike/any power)after passing my test.
Q: have you passed a motorcycle test in the UK, on a motorcycle bigger than 500cc? If so, then you would have been given a pass certificate that should have been given to DVLA in order for the A category to be put on your license. This would allow you to ride any sized motorcycle, but until you pass a car test, your license will still flag up as a provisional.
The codes next to it dictate what it is. So a car licence will give you am and a but you will have a 79 code meaning trike
Passed your scooter test in '88'??,,far as I'm aware of back then there was no differentiation between scooter's an motorcycles by definition /125cc being max allowed - therefore you should have a full licence for life (lest you've been naughty.)..
