does anybody else find they get a total lack of respect on the road from other road users??? i've had a break from riding for a few years and recantly got back into it and id forgoten how bad it was. its like they think because there bigger than you in there cars vans ect its there right of way, i think its discusting. its like they think we are all chavy 16 year old with a death wish, i bet there 5% of scooter riders like that. (please note i wasnt trying to cause offence to any young scooter riders with that comment)
Yep, I couldn't agree more. I was nearly rammed off of the road because I was sticking to the "40mph" limit and I was in "position B" on the road (directly in the middle of the road). The bloke pulled up along side me (He is now on the other side of the road) and he's shouting verbal abuse telling me to move over and I quote "learn to ride that f*cking bike". It's bang out of order, they are all so worked up in getting where they want to be, they will do anything to push anyone out of their way. Pisses me off so much, I just dish it all back to them and I hope that they knock me off so it goes on their insurance. Now that would make me laugh...
What sort of roads are you riding on? I ride on heavily congested city roads on a daily basis and it's quite rare I run into wanker car drivers. Most of them get left behind as soon as there is any traffic or traffic lights (all the time).
Well there is one road that has a 40mph speed limit, and it's around two miles long. Very rare for congestion to build up, only happens at five/six when people are coming back from work. It's disgusting how people act.
Fair post, most folk in their tin boxes only hit the road due to stress oriented reasons..very few relaxed motorists on the road,& we are seen as insignificant obstacles by most of them, just a case of doing our thing as safe as we can in that jungle, and enjoying it without getting wrapped up in the stress whirlwind, that is why a lot of us ride,. I was so many years ago a moped rider, just to get ahead in my life, now a 51 years old,and having owned most every bike out there,I am still drawn to the freedom & simplicity of a small scoot!
i ride on country roads on town roads, it happens to me mostly in town and my own village. i had a guy the other day i was doing 30 mph in a 30 its a long straight road i had my dipped beam on so theres no way he couldnt see me he floored it so hard out of the side road he was sideways as he came out of the junction i had to hit the brakes so hard i almost went up on the front wheel, if he hadnt been accelerating so hard id have gone into his boot, when i realised id missed him and looked up he was giving ME the w****r sign like it was my fault for been there. we got to the 20mph zone with large speed bumps and he actualy stopped infront of every 1 and crawled over then so slowly i had to have me feet down and walk the scoot behind him, after the 3rd 1 i overtook him and was gone, i just dont understand his thinking he cant have been in a rush so why try and kill me????????
If you dont like bad drivers stay away from peterborough Women taxis grannys and middle aged men are the main culprits here
The problem with scooter / bikes is that they appear small on the road & to a car driver / larger vehicle driver, they do indeed appear to be insignificant. Also, the fact that we occupy such a small footprint on the road, it does something to ones mental perception of speed. (If it's so small, then it cant be going fast mentality). Now as a rider of a 1000cc R1, these issues are far less significant, compared to riding the ped. The problem with the ped is that it's so slow, you get in the way of car drivers / larger vehicle drivers. Trust me, when you have far more power than them, you get out of the way as quickly as possible & can find youself in less poor situations. I'm not trying to promote speed here, but to an extent... it really does work.
i just imagine im invisable to all drivers, theres loads of dangerous drivers about and some grudge you for being able to wiz thru traffic, i get nobs closing the gap so i cant get through!
had a wanker in a car issue today, me and a friend we're riding back into town through a 50 zone, he was having problems with his bike so we we're sitting at about 40 or so, over that at some points just going steady, until some c*nt in a VW touran comes along pedal to the floor over taking aggressively, you might think this sounds acceptable, there was a flow of traffic coming the other way.. he cut back in just in front of us almost ramming us off the road, just avoiding a head on with the cars coming the other way.. after that he looked like he was doing over 70 until the 30 zone, where he slammed his brakes on, we caught up with him through the 30 as there were road works, what annoys me is some prick will put everyone in danger driving like that when we get to the same place at the same time, right pisses me off. As he was waiting at the road works i cruised past casually and stopped in front of the tosser, looked back and saw his face drop, was so tempted to scrape something down the side of his car. I dont understand what gives people the right to drive like that, fair enough if it's an open road and it's completely safe, but just because there's two 17 year old lads making their way back carefully doesn't mean they are clueless and have zero road sense. and @spannerz people do it all the time around where i am, i get people put their foot down to stay level with you so you cant pull back in, dicks.
I don't find the tin cans too bad around here. But there will always be the odd asshole who pulls out so you can't get past. WVM seem to be ok. It's normally reps in their BWM's who are aggressive to us guys for some reason. Guess they are in a hurry and disrespect bikes who can zip by. They will never learn lol
Full of pricks where I live. Just cause I look like a "prick on a ped" don't mean I am one. I'm doing my car test at the moment and I see why moped/bike drivers have so many problems. they just don't seem to give a fuck.
Maybe if there were more cop bikers around then cars would learn to have more respect. But they are reducing in numbers which is a real shame. I donno. Just a thought.
theres a training center just down the road from me for traffic cops, i actualy nearly knocked a bike cop off his bike last summer, because he came round the corner at speed on my side of the road, he missed my door mirror by inches, he was so close i could see the look on his face when he spotted me. i've actualy got my scoot on swapz at the moment for a combination of resons a big part of it is the total lack of respect scooter riders get round where i live, to be fair alot of it is the younger lots fault they ride round in gangs thinking they own the roads alot of them do deserve what they get but it isnt fair to tar us all with the same brush. im too old and ill to be riding in winter risking getting knocked off its just not as much fun as it used to be.
We're not all wankers thank-you I normally ride in a pack of 3/5 mates. We live in a congested area. Any stupidness is never done on the roads.
i didnt say you were hence the we shouldnt be tared with the same brush, but unfortunatly we do seem to be. all car drivers should try a scooter then they might realise how badly they treat us.
i find were i live the car drivers are very bad one nearly had me off yesterday ,i was standing at lights when they changed i moved off and this women promptly went straight across front of me i caught her back end, so i booted car hard, she stopped got out and said you shouldnt be there ,i said im phoning police ,at she jumped in car and shot off,,
I am a firm believer that before you get a car licence you should have to do a cbt. Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
