So it wouldn't be reliable on the road at 40mph?? But it would be on a track doing 30ft tabletops pinning it slipping the gears?? Thats basically like saying that a supermoto is not meant for the road. My friend had a CR85, bought it new in '05 and has never had to change the piston in 3 years :bird: The powerband on it is immense and it would piss over most cars/bikes off the line. Edit: DT? hahahaha that would defy the whole point of getting the KTM
well said lol ktm's are the best looking mx bikes by far.but the most expensive and break 24/7.but you can always tune the gear ratios so it can be better for road use.
motorcoss bikes aint for top speed they for low end power out of corners not ragin it in a straight line trust me i have been race scrambles and rebuiling scrambles since i was about 8 its up to u but i no wat i am on about and if u get your ktm flate out i bet it will speed woble like a bitch if that ktm engine was desinded to go on the road ktm would of brought a road bike with that engine and them ktms r race bikes they r for 10 mins ragging and left to cool right down not beening rideing for hours :bird:
Well on my mates CR85, two up. We could pin it about every where flat out for hours on end. And it was standard. Yeah obviously at top speed it would be sketchy as fuck, But I wouldn't want it for that. I never have to do long trips so it would be just for getting about. Cheers for the advice though, I'm just being a arrogant bastard
well i tell u wat my brothers cr 85 was the same but when u move on to the mens bikesthey start get unrelibe as fuck as they r alot faster so more stuff wears out faster
my dad looked into putting his crf450 onto the road on a day license and got told that all u need is bicycle speedo a number plate get an ingraver to stamp ur eahust wiv a genuine number copyed of an exhaust change tyres
Thats all that I was looking at getting. I wouldn't really want to ride it at night, as it would be a bit sketchy. But I think that it would be fecking great though!!!
so the average motocross bike doesnt need a piston every 10 hours or so to keep on top of bhp and they arent tuned lean for extra bhp? :wtf: oh and to ride this learner legal youll need to prove its restricted :wtf: its completely pointless but go do it if you really want to, youll be pushing home a lot though lol...
all PROPER mx bikes will have same sorta performance the only better thing that comes on a standard ktm is the hydraulic clutch but that is not nothing amazing... to use it at night you will need a headlight and rear light/brakelight dnt think you need indicators you can use your arms for that, you can buy a lighting kit from most mx shops for around £100 it will come with headlight rear/brake light and indis think it runs off of the coil... and for the dt comment, what is the point they are reeeeeeeeaaally slow you dont need a piston every 10hours use but its advised to, it would still run but would loose power and compression you better of buying one already converted and i personally wouldnt use it as an everyday bike more of a thing for fun.
Well I can't see how it would need a piston every 10 hours of use. My mates CR never seemed to lack power from new, And it would still be rapid until the day he sold it... 2 years after he bought it from new.... Edit: Perhaps if I was racing... Fair enough. But even then, every 10 hours is a way extreme...
So that is like saying you should replace your piston if you have a bore kit every ten hours... Even if they do come lean from the factory you can adjust the fuel/air mixture.......
i would change the piston when it should be even it it dont really need changing otherwise i would go out thinking it was gonna go bang, and we are talking race prepped engines here not your little 70cc rev and go.
A good friend of mine runs a MX track in Benfleet, Essex. Its nothing special but its still a track. He has a YZ250 and cains the absoloute bollox out of it. He goes through gearbox's quicker than pistons... and he has never had to change his piston and has been through 2 gearbox's.. I'm 99% sure that a KTM65 would not need a new piston every 10 hours. If you wanted to keep the power crisp then yeah maybe. But that would mean a new piston every 3 days..... I think not...
the only reason hes going through the gearboxes quick is because hes not using his clutch but hardly anyone does.
Yeah he loves it haha. You dont really need to use the clutch when going up through the gears on a big bike. Only when going down really. As long as your not hammering it, it should just slip into gear. On the other hand he just rides it like an animal. He's mad haha. He's the one with the KTM
dont tell me you dont need to use it you should really its the same as in a car but just dont make the noise, only way you can doit without fuckingthe gearbox is to know exactly wat revs to change.
Well my dad never used to use the clutch on his R6 when he was just riding around on it. It just used to slip into gear. It won't do any damage to your gearbox unless you are thrashing it, keeping the throttle wide open and slamming it up a gear.
Oh have a day off mate and grow up. I'm stating that you dont need to use the clutch 24/7 on a geared bike to change gear.
