Well, after months of jumping out of first gear it finally died. First of all it jammed in gear at a roundabout traffic light, then it just made grinding noises. Managed to get home by starting in second, but I fear the 'box is done for. Question now is do I repair the unit in the bike, or look for a replacement engine?

    You've two options.
    1. Strip the knackered one and do the repair, refit and run it.
    2. Source a replacement, run that.
Then strip the first one, powdercoat the cases/engine covers, full gasket set, piston and barrel and crank upgrade, new bearings.
Make it look like a diamond.

If I'm going to rebuild the engine I'll REBUILD the engine, you know what I mean? The crankcase needs to come apart to get to the gearbox anyway, so I may as well *ahem* rebuild it better. Meanwhile I have no functional motorcycle, although I do still have Drutt the stripped down scooter.
