Does anyome know of a shop in south manchester where i can buy a pack of 6mm delly jets ? Would get some off the net but i need them tomorrow Cheers for any help
Mike Phoenix Scooters in Denton might be another place worth checking if Road and Race can't help you. Tel:0161 336 1636. They do Vespa and other scooter parts, so Dellorto jets should be right up their street.
What size jet are you actually looking for? I have a couple of spare carbs here, including a Dellorto and one of them might have the size you need.
I was after a range of jets, i have them now had to go to stoke on trent to get them, At the minute im pulling my hair out with it, i can not for the life of me set this damn carb up, it does nothing but bog doe and splutter at top end, As it stands i have given up with it for the night and left it with a 52 jet in it Its a standard carb with a standard engine but i just cant get it adjusted When i got it, it was standard and had been left standing for 4 years before i got it when i stripped the carb down it had a 75 or 78 jet in it but it still begged after i cleaned it I just dont know what im doing wrong
Check the float height in the carb. At higher jet sizes, if the float height's not correct, it can cause fuel starvation and that would cause spluttering and loss of power.
i think i may have found the problem, last night i took the carb off and gave it a clean, checked the float height as suggested and re fitted, when re fitted i sucked the vac pipe to fill the bowl before starting, when i did this fuel came flowing out of the carb, i have ordered a repair kit for it (new bowl, seals, float, float pin etc) but my question is did this happen because i sucked too hard on the vac pipe or is it just because the carb needs refurbing
It's most likely that the float height is wrong or that the float needle seat is dirty, preventing it from closing off the fuel properly when the float bowl is full. Did you check that raising the float closed the needle valve, by blowing into the fuel line?
No i didnt but will check that once i have overhauled the carb cos the seals looked a bit ropey anyway, and i dont think there is any adjustment on the stock float cos it is full plastic, and the seat that the needle sits in was nice and clean. Does the carb have to sit 100% level cos it sits slightly higher at the filter side than the manifold side, its only just noticable tho
If it's not level, it might stop the float from rising properly and it could stick, causing fuel to leak out. The float height is adjusted by bending the little metal tab between the floats that the needle attaches to with a tiny spring. When the floats are level, when you compare them to the body flange that the float bowl fastens to, the needle valve should be shut.
There will still be a needle above the floats to close the fuel off. When you take it off, try blowing in the fuel line as I said before and see if the valve closes when you raise the floats. Dirt and corrosion can stop these valves working properly.
