So, Ive had a bit of a disaster... I bought a Peugeot SF2 100 in October and basically got rinsed by a *&^t as I am new to bikes and didn't do my homework. It now has a problem of cutting out under revs, this is on top of £350 worth of parts for its MOT last month, and frankly I`m now sick to the back teeth of it. Its probably something simple but I dont know enough and have gone past caring, given Ive spent £850 on its purchase and MOT I am hoping I can claw back 2/3 hundred from selling the damned thing. Its so frustrating as when it ran for that 6 weeks of trouble free motoring, it was very nice. I`m more p**sed off because the money I used to buy it was the last little bit of money my mum left me. Sounds wet I know but it grates on me. I would like to just buy a bike on finance but my credits not brilliant losing your job suddenly and being unemployed for 2 years has that effect... Despite the fact that I now have a decent enough job and bring in £1100 a month Ive tried 2 finance places, neither could find me a loan even with a £500 deposit. You`d think I`d been done for fraud rather than late credit card payments... So I`m going to try and scrape together another £800. Looking for suggestions for types of moped and things to look for when I view. Thank you all.
Any modern scooter will work great, the likes of SYM, KYMCO are very good and very resonably priced. Members on hear will tell you to buy Piaggio/ Gilera and that's fair to say but they are very expensive.Buying any second hand is alway's a gamble unless your good with the spanners. And steer well clear of Peugeots as your've found out.
The problem will more than likely be due to an air leak by the sounds of it; cutting out at revs, so new intake gaskets will be needed. It could be an ignition problem but fairly unlikely. If I were you, I'd get it running then sell it as you'll get alot more money for a runner than a non runner. In terms of a next 'ped, do your research and get a second hand one, if you have any friends with mechanical knowledge, take them to view it with you and look out for nasty rattles from the engine, handling as it could have been in a nasty smack, and how it pulls etc. etc. I'd advise not to buy from a dealer as they generally take the piss with the price. It might take even a few months for something good to come along but it'll be worth the wait I'd generally look around for Sym's, Piaggio's such as the Zip, NRG, Typh, I would say Gilera Runner's but they're getting pretty expensive and so are the Aprilia SR's. But sometimes you can find a bargain
balls, net was down for days and forgot to check for replies. New (ish) carb was fitted. currently fightint with a fuel tap leak. looks like the washers fooked. going to rip out the carb tomorrow, take it to bits and try and figure it out, last time i did that and cleaned it all out it went on to work for a couple more days so it must be something to do with that system or in the region of it. Now Ive been reading a little more about the SF2 100, looked about at some modded examples, and I really am tempted to chuck my £800 at it in the hopes that i could have a reliable and nice looking, nippy ped. To do that basically, I will have to replace everything barring the parts Ive already replaced and the engine. They would be: new panel kit (currently in rough shape, resprayed by hand in places by last idiot) new fuel tap, (leaking, fixable but old) new pipes, new air intake (currently ill fitting) new rollers (Take off when bike works is woefully slow) new seat upholstery new exhaust (currently VERY loud, which I hate, needs either a repack of a replacement for the technigas exhaust, rubber gaskets also keep melting off after a time so its blowing) new filters, new gaskets engine strip & clean (engine works well but nought wrong with a thorough service) New kick start assembly (currently destroyed) Already replaced: Bearings break pads & discs front suspension reed valves carb carb needle steering bolts tyres & innertubes So to sum it up, I either buy a new bike, or I forget the idea of cost v benefit and do the bike up as a project of love, / hobbie. Opinions welcome. Also happy for a spec list / pricing if anyone's got any thoughts
for £800 you may aswell just buy another bike! you could get a pretty nice yamaha sr125 or honda cg125 for less
I could get many many bikes if i wanted the hassle of gears. Which I dont This is a commuter scooter. Needed for visiting work and friends. I do plan on getting a Honda Valderado but not for a couple of years.
