My scooter (italjet formula 50/70 lc) seems to rev up quite a bit before taking off & going up to its max of 55..sometimes 60 mph...I think its revving more a top speed but its hard to tell how much more. It seems to have a "sweet spot" around 50-55 where it is happy almost like flipping a switch.. Im not familiar with tuning the converter/clutches/rollers/etc. but I feel like it should grab hold earlier in the rev range...what do you guys think??? jim
Maybe your clutch springs are a bit too stiff. I would leave it alone. Usually the problem is that it won't rev high enough on take off. Changing the rollers for heavier ones might not help the top speed at all as the variator is maxed out at 55 mph. I think you've just reached the limit of the machine's transmission. Only changing the final gearing will help this..... The sweet spot is down to the cylinder/exhaust match. Frankly if you're hitting a sweet spot at 55/60 and it's taking off properly then you're doing good ! Who set it up ?
I just got this scooter in January & it is my first & only "new style" machine though its a '99 model, it came to me cross country from a dealer (2000 miles) riding in a tractor-trailer. I took it for a short ride right away I decided to pull the bodywork & see what was underneath & put a new plug in it, I found the lines from the oil tank to the pump were plugged so a good thing, I had thought the injection was OK. I removed the air filter (stock box) and found the intake pipe had been sawed off so that air went past the filter instead of thru it...I inst a section of thin alum tube so air went thru the filter. I found that it had a Malossi cylinder..must be 70cc...also manifold & a 21 mm dellorto...it has the stock exhaust..not sure if that is restricted..bought a Leovince ZX pipe but haven't inst it yet...I know I will need to de-restrict it first. Yesterday I inst a Doppler air filter, the one with the clear top that looks like a pop bottle, it only had one small opening and the bike ran punky, I have now drilled out one of its other openings and will try again...don't want to screw anything up. I don't really know what all mods have been done to this scooter as its now 14 years old, was last registered in 2007....jim
