hi all, im in need of some advice etc.

i have done some research and i think the rear pulley is sticking

nrg 2006- runs fines accelerates from 0-50 with no problems untill you hit a long road flat out for 5-10 mins or so, then after stopping at traffic lights the bike seems to accelerate slower and hang around 30mph untill the power band and then back up to full speed

if you turn the engine off it seems to return to normal untill you hit another long road flat out for more than 5 mins :banghead:

im gonna whip out the clutch and pulley to see if i can see the problem but not really sure what to look out for
anyone got any tips on what to look out for etc.

    thanks in advance

edit: stock with techi gas exhaust and 4.5 rollers

turning off the engine wont affect the variator because its not eletrically operated. but did i really just read u have 1g rollers? it sounds like ur rollers are too heavy because its "hanging" which is known as a flat spot, but id wait for someone else to give their opiniion

the rollers are a 1 gram lighter than stock
the flat spot or whatever you want to call it is intermittent
i know the variator is a mechanical part and so is the rear pulley but im thinking if the rear pulley is getting stuck and not fully returning then this maybe causing the problem and when left or switched off for a bit the pulley returnS in its own time

why have u got 1g lighter rollers with a stock exhaust for? just put the originals back in and see how it goes. and if ur pully is sticking, only thin i could think of is a bad spring

sorry i didnt make it very clear
its a stock nrg with an exhaust so i dropped a gram on the roller like suggested on this forum, i cant put the originals back in as there was only 3 in the variator when i bought it

it runs fine untill your flat out for 5 mins or more
from cold or short trips its fine

oh you mean a sports exhaust? and it sounds like an issue for when the bike warms up, but cant think of why that would make ur rear pully "stick"

Has anything else been done to the bike? Clutch springs? Upjetting? Contra spring? etc

    No dont think so

i think the problem lies with the rear pulley, clutch or something round there
sometimes when i pull off from cold it makes a little squeak when the clutch bites?

not really a problem when it warms up. it can do it from cold, you just have to be flat out for more than say 5 mins.

you can nip into a shop come out and it alright again

im gonna strip it tomorrow and see if i can see anything wrong

you might wanna be careful taking them off.... theres a lot of spring resistance on that

There isn't any spring tension on the clutch bell nut. He will be fine taking that off.

FLENG2008- When you get the clutch bell nut off, remove the entire rear pulley assembly off the shaft. Stock, these come VERY dry and hardly any lubrication inside. This often creates resistance when the pulley tries to retract. Especially with a stock contra spring.
Once the assembly is off, turn it over and look inside. You will see where the pulley rides on the shaft and bearings. Use a good bearing grease and apply an ample amount of grease with your finger to the inside of that chase. Make sure to use gloves, this makes for an easy clean up when your done and you won't get anything on the clutch pads. Cover the needle bearings and the holes that are right behind the bearings. Greasing those locations will insure that the pulley assembly is fully lubricated.

Another cause of your condition is a contra spring that is worn out. Once you ride your scoot a fair amount, the contra spring heats up from friction. This makes the spring weak and expand at the ends where it rests in the clutch. This will in turn not allow your rear pulley to fully close and therefore cause your scoot to be in a higher ratio and feel like a dead spot or flat spot during acceleration.

Now that the grease is suffecient, remove the clutch and inspect your contra spring. be careful here, this is where the spring tension is that xplicit vehicle was referring to. Look for scratch marks and scraping on the clutch side of the contra spring. Both on the spring and inside the clutch where the contra spring rests. If there is a large amount of scoring, lightly sand those scratches down on the inside of the clutch and replace your contra spring. This is a sign that the spring is weak. This can also happen from to high of RPM's with no load on the tranny.

When you re-install everything, make sure that you use variator grease on your variator ramps and rollers. Malossi has the best grease for that.

    Hope this helps.
