I saw a comment on the forum about high octane fuels not being the best choice for mopeds. I had a little search but discovered very little. Does anyone have any ideas to why this is? Thanks.
Put it in my scooter a few times (it was free) it runs but economy goes through the floor about 150km instead of 250. Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
You should always run your bike on the correct octane fuel. For pretty much all scooters it will be 95 which is standard pump fuel. If however you are running a tuned bike with an after market cylinder then the manual that comes with the cylinder kit will tell you what octane ratio you should be running. The higher the octane means in higher compression engines you wont get detonation. It's a must have for high end bikes and cars if they have been built with high compression heads. For example my stage 6 r/t 70 needs to run 100 octane fuel. The idea of losing power with higher octane fuel is debated but as I understand it it takes more compression to make a good explosion so with less compression you should get a worse bag this will then reduce the power output. Also higher octane fuels have more other stuff in them than just plain petrol so it makes sense to me that they would reduce performance. Then you have the whole point that higher octane fuel is more expensive so you are just wasting money. Oh and the idea that it "cleans out your engine" is just pure crap.
