Hi, to overcome a number of hill climbing / power issues on a gilera dna50 i have stripped and cleaned the variator and clutch. I have bought a new white 1000rpm contraspring to replace a stock black one. The new spring is about 10mm (1cm) shorter. Will this be an issue? Ive never done spring work before so this is new territory.

It's how much power (weight) that's required to fully compress it that counts. Don't worry about the length. If you put them on a bathroom scale and fully compress them the 1000rpm should be some kg harder to compress.

Bathroom scales, now that sounds like a practical test that needs no special tools. Thanks for the reply.

Tested as you suggested, the new one is shorter but clearly stronger. Thanks for the suggestion, good, simple test.
