insurance prices are a personal thing really, prices will differ from person to person,
your age, experiance even your post code will affect the price you pay...

Im paying £2,298 per year on a 1993 L reg skipper 125, thats the cheapest I could get with bikesure, the highest quote I was offered was over £17,000... But then again I do have 12 points and a 6month ban under my belt, and I live in a high crime area with quite high moped theft statistics.

So 300 odd quid sounds like a banging deal to me!!

Think about it... £319 for the insurance then you bike gets stolen... So you have to minus the price of anything they are going to give you by £500.

A runner 125 book price will only be £600 at the most. So they give you £100 but you have already paid out £319 for insurance so you are still £219 out of pocket...

It makes no sense. Go for third party only.

Unless it's a newish new shape runner 4 stroke then no chance. They always pay out the low end of book price and the book price for old scooters is tiny.

I'll give you an example.. The book price for a year old typhoon 50 in perfect condition is £750. That's with a retail price the year before at around £1,500.

never go for that there to many sccot getting nicked these days mine got tired the other nite.

also if u put dwon on the price part of the insurance where it say how much is it worth if u put 50 u will get 50.

also there are two type of excess compaslery and volarenty the comp is the one you have to pay that what they say u have to ay if somthing is your fualt but the volant one u tell them how much u are gonna pay up to if it your fualt.

mine has 0 volo but 450 camp so if i have a crash and turns out to be my fualt then that what i pay if i have a crash and is not my fualt i dont have to pay shit.

as from getting your bike nicked it is not your fualt so you will not have to pay the excess and the insureance company will give you what you put down for how much it is worth.

how i know this is that i made sure with my inmsurance company w

You really need to read up on how insurance works. Voluntary excess is just what you can pick when you buy your insurance to lower the price. So say they offer you 200 policy with 300 excess then volunteering to have 400 may lower your policy cost.

You never pay out any money in an accident even if it is your fault and you only have third party. Hence all third party policies have no excess as all excess covers is damage to your bike and possibly property depending on the cover.

Putting a value on your bike means nothing when signing up for a policy as they always go with the current book price. Otherwise we would all put our bikes at £20,000 and go looking for some fool to crash into us.

The price you have been quoted is pretty decent if you live in a high crime area aka any city.

not realy much crime and i know how insurance works but just want to be safe as runners are easily stolen.

I was more referring to jamesknowles1991.

The simple fact is that if the price of the insurance + excess adds up to more than the book value of the bike then it isn't worth getting anything other than third party. If you called up an insurance company to get a quote they would even tell you this!!

If you want to know how much an 8 year old runners book price is then call up a dealer and ask. There will be a price for a bad condition bike and one for a good condition.

The other thing is if it gets stolen and you have to claim for the cost then your next insurance will cost more. The best thing to do is to try and prevent it in the first place with the proper security.
