Righteo, turned 21 couple weeks back and it hit me today that I'm the legal age to ride other bikes right? The only thing I'm unsure on is, is it covered with my insurance (is there usually a check box to say you will be doing so?) on TPFT or do I need fully comp? Would love to start riding bro n dads bikes
you can ride ANY bike at 17 as long as its restricted or ANY bike without restrictors 2 years after passing your test, so if you take your test at 17 then you are unlimited at 19. you can do a full DAS test at 21 that skips the 2 year probationary. you need to check your policy docs.
Ah right max, my bro n dad have been on my bike n bro been on dads n they aren't fully comp wobbly, ya got the wrong end of the stick I think mate I did my test at 17, became unrestricted at 19 (full). Am now 21 and wondering if I can ride other peoples bikes under my insurance, I.E. so me and my bro can swap when we are out.
Hey Jeff, I think it depends on the insurer as each vary. I know with cars it is as aerox183 said though. Let me know when you find out though, sounds good, aslong as the premium is not a ripp-off!
Well I've read through my policy and can't find anything, it's always been a uncertain topic. Yeah sh0x I've heard that about cars too. I'm planning on getting a multibike policy on my renewal in April, maybe running the CBR, Ducati and a ermmmmm 180
According to my policy, which is third party only, I can ride anyone else's bike (although only get third party cover obviously) so long as A/ My insured bike is over 350cc B/ The bike im planning to ride is insured by someone else and not owned by me, or hired too me. C/ The owner/insured gives me permission. D/ Im not in the motor repair/hire trade. Doesnt mention anything about age strangly. Seemed weird so I did phone up to confirm. obviously thats ignoring restriction bullshit (only gotta wait till june now) But as said its different on every policy so check/phone them.
Ah right cheers purplepill, my bro has been riding my bike etc and he has always said he was covered (before he was 21) and it was on his policy. So it's down to the policy really, not age. I rang them up and it's not on my policy so either I take out another policy (killing 9 months no claims) or wait till April and renew it then :rtfm: It's gonna be different with different insurers n that, mine won't let me
It may be possible to pay extra to add 'riding other bikes' to your existing policy, Itl still cost you but at least youd keep your no-claims. Im not sure whether the above is possible but thats what id be trying if I was in your position, rather than waiting until april guess it all depends on your money situation but id never give up 9 months no claims. Edit: make your CBR a thread in bike chat, used to have the same sort an like seeing how other people mod them, if youve already done it in another section just point me towards the fail boat
Yeah tried that, I can't altar my current policy , no way am I giving up the 9 months, it'l be 5 years in April hopefully.
Jeff. its all in your documents mate. it will tell you clearly whether you can or not dont take it for granted. Bikesure are easy to get cover for all bikes with i did it last year at 19 :bird:
Purplepill, I'm on it Sh0x, I'm with Bennetts through comparethemeerkat.com, all bikes and scooters. Monty, well erm :bird: I'm pissed about it, was going to ride my Dads Vincent to a meet :emb: I went through all my documents and nothing clear about it, rang them up n I can't
DAMN! i just relised its been 2 years today since i passsed my bike test....... i can ride anything selling the car for hyabusa
