    Hi Guys

Following my indicator issues (when indicating they stay on if I am braking or stationery and blink when releasing the break or accelerating) - original post here -
    http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/vespa-lx50-noob-queries.30967/

I have asked a mechanic friend of mine to check the battery, as suggested, and it is reading a perfect 12.56v. (I must mention that when initially starting the bike and testing the battery, it read 12.56v and then changed for a split second to 0.16v then 12.56v and then 10v and then back to 12.56v)

This now causes an issue as I cannot figure out what can be causing the indicators to stick “on” when indicating! At least with the battery issue it made sense that the power being used for the braking lights was draining power, and accelerating boosted power. Now I cannot figure out why the indicators are doing this!

    Any ideas??

    Thanks

I too thought it was the battery however I've tested it and it sits at 12.56v.....

Tbh theres not many other things that make indicators act up like that. You said that its fine when accelerating (generating power) or when theres no other lights on which would kind of back it up and a jump in voltage when the battery is under load kind of backs it up to..

No spare battery to test just to rule it out?

I wish ramo but its so annoying that spending £30 on a new battery just to check is on the cards!

Do you think cleaning the negative and positive connections on the battery may help?

Possibly but also check the wiring to the indicators and switch.

Have to agree with Mr Bizzle on this one. Sounds like a bad earth.
Easiest way is to get a length of wire and put one end on the earth of the indicator, preferably inside the indicator itself, and the other to a good clean earth, or even straight to the battery negative terminal. Will probably have to do this on each indicator to find the faulty one.
Otherwise, and you will be doing yourself a favour in the long run this way, disconnect each earth and positive wire off all four indicators, clean them with wet n dry, clean the earth points, and reconnect. If you still have a problem afterwards.................check/clean terminals to the flasher relay and also the engine earth strap.

Incidentally, just re-read your first post, if the battery voltage is fluctuating like that, you may have a loose earth connection from the battery ground to the chassis. Follow the earth lead from the battery to wherever it goes and check/clean/tighten that one up as well.
