kinda getting into the scooter tuning business and im bored of fitting a piston stopper to my aerox to change rollers etc. found this cheap on ebay, will this be enough to get the variator bolt and clutch bolt off without needing locking tools? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMPACT-GU...erTools_SM&hash=item2567f41c6f#ht_1900wt_1398
Iv got the RAC 12v and its spot on for the job, u can run it off your battery because it comes with clips.
that rac one was the first one i had, it does the job fine and its handy that you can run it anywhere as long as youve got a ped battery but i found that none of the sizes that come with it actually fit my bike... i dont really trust any of those jamming methods unless its a one off (even then its risky as fuck tbh).
piston stoppers are fairly safe, as long as you dont over do it on the old forces. But the rac gun includes a 17mm socket along with other sizes, and both my clutch and variator bolts are 17mm
i would love to buy an impact gun but im so sort on money (fucking scoot drinks too much fuel) and i dont really trust ebay and stuff like that...
You're ment to replace the bolts ever few times you take them off or the thread rounds out on the crank... mine did it haha.
a locking tools best. impact guns are ideal to get things off i.e car wheel nuts i have thrown towards variator locking tools for years. you can torque things up properly and there easily transportable to use on the road my locking tool for my gts was £40 but its a proper one and it covers all the quasar piaggio engines aerox tools wont be more then a tenner
i do prefer to do things up with a wrench but the impact gun seems to do the job well. That and its powered off the bikes battery and fits under the seat so its cracking!
impact guns are OK for removing fixings but a lcking plate and torque wrench is the way to go for refitting. Using an impact to refit can lead to mechanical failure see what I mean
ouch! was that a proper air powered gun or electric? my gun does one hit then has too spool up again so its not so easy to go ott on bolts, but i can see the cons against it as its a pretty brutal whack when it kicks in lol
You never tighten with the impact gun as Forde say's, and as for using a piston stopper, that sounds just as bad, you could end up twisting the crank. Do the job right, use a variator locking tool and torque wrench.
